Deadline for deer and elk permit applications is April 1

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks
reminds hunters that the deadline
to apply for deer and elk licenses for
nonresidents and deer and elk permits
for everyone is April 1.
Hunters who are applying for
special licenses and permits need to
have a valid email address. Hunters can
apply for permits on the FWP website;
click on “Buy and Apply.” Most FWP
offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 5
p.m., Monday through Friday.
This spring Fish, Wildlife &
Parks launched the new MyFWP
mobile app that stores and displays
licenses, permits, and digital carcass
tags, known as E-Tags, which can
be used in the field without cellular
service. To use the app, hunters and
anglers will need a MyFWP account,
which is a secure and convenient
digital profile that stores licenses,
permits and related information.
To create a new account, visit fwp.
mt.gov. Hunters will also still have the
option to print copies of licenses they
purchase online or at FWP offices.

OBITUARY
Marvin Barstad
Marvin Oliver Barstad,
84, passed away on Saturday,
March 26, 2022 due to a lengthy
battle with Alzheimer’s.
Marvin was born June 4, 1937
in Glasgow, Montana to Ingvar
and Myrtle (Paulson) Barstad.
Marvin was proud to be a
life-long resident of the Glasgow community. He found his
love Georgia Krall in Culbertson and they were married on
August 12, 1962 and raised three sons.
He hired on with the Great Northern Railroad at
the age of 17. On March 9, 2000, Conductor Barstad was
authorized to discard his timetable, rule book, safety shoes,
railroad watch and pager after 45 years of unblemished
service with the GN, BN and BNSF Railroad.
Marvin was devoted to his family and in particular
loved cheering on his many children and grandchildren
in their sports and other school activities. He enjoyed
long distance running, fishing and golfing with friends.
He supported the Glasgow area community through the
church, Sunday morning AA group and sustainment of
public fitness facilities.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Georgia; brother,
Harvey; sons: Charles (Valerie), Robert (Ayako), and
Bruce (Jenny Fuller); grandchildren: Christopher (Erin),
Nathaniel (Kelly), Kylan, Taylor, Koki, Manato, Braden,
Kiauna and Kaylee Raisl; great-granddaughters: Keeley
Simonson, and Alexandra Rose Barstad.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ingvar and
Myrtle; brother, Milton; uncle Hank Paulson, and sister-in-
law Nancy Franz (Harvey) Barstad.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 3, 2022
from 3:00 until 5:00 at Bell Mortuary to share stories and
celebrate Marvin’s life. Memorial service will be held at
11:00 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2022 at the First Lutheran
Church in Glasgow with Pastor Scott Kiehn officiating.
Military honors will be presented after the service followed
with a luncheon at the church. A family burial will be held
at Highland Cemetery following the luncheon.
In lieu of sending flowers, family requests donations
be made in memory of Marvin to the Glasgow High
School Educational Trust, Valley County Community Pool
Campaign or the First Lutheran Church. Condolences may
be left on line at bellmortuaryglasgow.com.
Honorary pallbearers are: Ron Inches, Greg Gilchrist,
Mike Daggett, Dave Watson, Chuck Garten, Richard Gault,
Craig Hallock, Kenny Newton and all of the men who rode
and continue to ride the rails.

Leadership positions.
Thank you for making the
Glasgow Wrestling Club the "Gold
Standard" in the State of Montana.
Short of our seven individuals
heading to Iowa with Team
Montana in April, this weekend
marked the end of the 2022 season.
We had a record 125 kids in
wrestling this season. (100 boys
and 25 girls). Our goal is 150 next
season and we already can't wait till
it's time to get back on the mats!!

Senior Citizen Prom next week
The annual Valley County Senior Citizen Prom is
scheduled for Tuesday, April 5th at the Valley County
Senior Citizen Center. Dave Pippin and the crew will
be there from 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. providing the music.
All Valley County Senior Citizens are invited to a night
of music, food, flowers and pictures sponsored by the
GHS Student Council. Cost is $3/single and $5/couple.
Also, GHS Student Council has 300 dozen Krispy
Kreme doughnuts ordered for Friday, April 8th. They
are $12/dozen and can be ordered by calling the Pioneer
Museum (406) 228-8692 or by contacting a GHS Student
Council member. The money raised from the sale of the
doughnuts will be used to bring in Zoo Montana for
assemblies at Irle School and to purchase rocking chairs An elderly lady was well-known for her faith and
for the Pioneer Museum.

for her boldness in talking about it. She would stand on
her front porch and shout "PRAISE THE LORD!"
Next door to her lived an atheist who would get so
angry at her proclamations he would shout, "There ain't
no Lord!!"
Hard times set in on the elderly lady, and she
prayed for GOD to send her some assistance. She
stood on her porch and shouted "PRAISE THE LORD.
GOD I NEED FOOD!! I AM HAVING A HARD TIME.
PLEASE LORD, SEND ME SOME GROCERIES!!"
The next morning the lady went out on her porch
and noted a large bag of groceries and shouted,
"PRAISE THE LORD."
The neighbor jumped from behind a bush and
said, "Aha! I told you there was no Lord. I bought those
groceries, God didn't."
The lady started jumping up and down and clapping
her hands and said, "PRAISE THE LORD! He not only
sent me groceries, but He made the devil pay for them.
PRAISE THE LORD!"

Inaugural Tom & Cindy Markle Scholarship offered
This summer, the Valley
County Community Foundation
will award its first scholarship
designed to benefit students
working on advanced degrees,
announced Doris Leader of
Nashua. She chairs the Foundation
board which administers the
scholarship.
The Thomas & Cynthia
Markle Scholarship for Advanced
Degree Study will assist students
who have earned an undergraduate
degree and are seeking further
education. It is designed to assist
students who have roots in Valley
County as they work toward
masters, doctorate, or post-
doctorate level degrees. Need will
be a high priority in evaluating
applications.
Eligible students are those
who graduated from Valley
County High Schools along with
students who received a home
school certificate or a GED while
a Valley County resident and have
completed undergraduate degrees,
Unique to this local
scholarship, students who
graduated high school elsewhere
and have lived in Valley County
for five consecutive years may
apply.
A shared enjoyment of travel
prompted the couple to include
students studying abroad among
those eligible for the scholarship.
“I was privileged to study in
Mexico while I was in school and
it has been a benefit to me in my
professional life,” Tom Markle
said. “I know it can impact others
too.”
He is a lifelong Glasgow
resident, aside from the time he
worked abroad in banking. He
was a partner in Markle’s Inc.
with his brothers Jack and Dick.
Cindy Markle moved to Glasgow
after their marriage and worked in
journalism and marketing at the
Courier and FMDH. Both have
been active in many volunteer
community endeavors.
Information on the
scholarship requirements can be
found on the VCCF website www.
valleycountycf.net. Applications
are due June 17.
Softball Camp
slated for May 7th
There will be a Glasgow Softball
Camp Saturday, May 7th from
10a.m. - 2p.m. at Sullivan Park.
Cost is $40 per participant
and registration forms are available
at the Glasgow Recreation Center,
Irle School and Middle School.
