LESSON 14 – CODE OF ETHICS FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS

A. ACTIVITY

The video presentation focused on what the code of ethics for professional teachers is all

about. It also gave emphasis on the importance of teachers, and what their duties and

responsibilities are.

B. ANALYSIS

1. Considering the enormous experiences and responsibilities of teachers, what can the

schools and community members do to help and support them?

I believe teachers are trying their best in the midst of multiple problems, and

administrators need to recognize this. Assume that you have good intentions. Make it plain that

you understand how hard they are working, and that you understand how stressful it has been to

raise accountability and discipline in the face of distant learning. The schools and community

must assure them that they are safe in times of vulnerability. Also, they should raise the teachers’

salaries because they deserve the best.

2. What can teachers do to improve their working relationships with parents especially this

pandemic time?

Teachers have had to adopt new means of educating their students and staying connected

to their communities in response to the education crisis caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Millions of parents throughout the world have also joined forward to take care of their children's

education. In the 'new normal,' parents and other caregivers must have a larger part in their

child's learning and development than they did in the past. More so, because the majority of

education today takes place from home rather than on a school site, and without the physical
presence of teachers. Teachers all over the world are working tirelessly to ensure that their pupils

are engaged in the learning process.

3. Based on what you have learned from the presentation, what are the usual violations of

the code of Ethics for Professional Teachers committed by some teachers?

Based on what I have learned from the presentation, the usual violations of the code of

Ethics for Professional Teachers committed by some teachers include using of authority over

students, accepting favors or gifts from students, discrimination in the classroom, and so many

more.

C. ABSTRACTION/APPLICATION

As a future teacher, I should know the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers

wholeheartedly. But as a human being, ethics serves as a guide to know what is wrong and what

is right. In my daily life, I need to be reminded to be ethical always so that I can contribute to a

more peaceful community. In life, we need to choose decisions, and with ethics, I can know what

consequences I will face if I do not follow it also helps me become a better person not just to

other people but also to myself.

D.ASSESSMENT

1. In your context, what do you mean by ethics?

In my own understanding, ethics is a basis that will guide us to choose good and ethical

when faced with difficult path.

2. Why do you think this code of ethics for professional teachers has been crafted?

Like any other profession, Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers has been crafted to

protect the rights of students and their co-teachers. Teachers must recognize that by accepting a

teaching career, they are agreeing to comply with the code of ethics.
3. Cite 5 Articles that struck you and has the most significance in your preparation as a future

teacher of the 21st Century learners.

 ARTICLE I – SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS:

Section 1. The Philippine Constitution provides that all educational institution

shall offer quality education for all competent teachers committed of its full realization

The provision of this Code shall apply, therefore, to all teachers in schools in the

Philippines.

 ARTICLE III – THE TEACHER AND THE COMMUNITY:

Section 1. A teacher is a facilitator of learning and of the development of the

youth: he shall, therefore, render the best service by providing an environment conducive

to such learning and growth.

 ARTICLE IV – A TEACHER AND THE PROFESSION

 ARTICLE IX – THE TEACHERS AND PARENTS

 ARTICLE XI – THE TEACHER AS A PERSON

The five articles above got me hooked the most. For me, as a future teacher who will be

teaching young learners, these will remind me to always go back to the basics and be the best

version of me. I will become a teacher who respects and values the ethics and will teach kids

with utmost respect and kindness.
