Paper

Paper is a thin sheet material made from wood, rags, and other fibrous materials that
are mechanically or chemically processed. The growth of human civilization over the ages
has been mirrored in the history of paper, from the diffusion of scientific and
philosophical knowledge to the expansion of education to the establishment of the sort of
political and historical consciousness that gave rise to the modern nation state. There was
some discussion over when, where, and how paper was invented. Some history texts state that
papyrus from Egypt was the beginning, but others argue that the paper we know today began
