SUBJECT: Conduct of the CY 2022 Quarterly Nationwide Simultaneous


Earthquake Drill (NSED)
Overview The Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) is held quarterly to
ensure the ability of the country's respective LGUs and the government to
prepare for earthquakes holistically. Furthermore, it contributes to
increased public awareness of earthquake preparedness as it underpins
ensuring public safety.
Objectives The objectives of the NSED is to improve participants' and the general
public's understanding of the immediate steps to be taken when an
earthquake occurs. It also serves as a systematic approach to revising
approaches in earthquake preparedness.
Participants All LGU Departments, Barangays especially the targeted audiences
and other (women, children, youth and students, senior citizens) are encouraged to
details conduct activities that promote earthquake preparedness and resilience as
well as tsunami awareness while observing public health measures in their
respective offices. We will do again our DUCK, COVER, and HOLD
( EARTHQUAKE DRILLS) gesture in our respective offices and houses once
the ceremonial alarm sounds this coming March 10, 2022, 9am

Highlights LGU HINUNDAYAN joined the ceremonial pressing of the button online
marking the start of the 1st quarter nationwide earthquake drill at their
respective areas last March 10, 2022. The said drill was mandated by
National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Memorandum No.
21 dated February 03, 2022 “Conduct of the CY 2022 Quarterly Nationwide
Simultaneous Earthquake Drill”, offices across all Departments and
Barangays are enjoined to participate in the conduct of quarterly
Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED).

At exactly 9 o’clock in the morning, a ceremonial siren sound blared for one
minute courtesy of the BFP Fire truck for the LGU participants and the Early
Warning System available in the respective barangays and targeted
audiences who participated, as a signal that an earthquake is currently
happening. The MDRRMO led the activity and everybody ducked and covered
and held themselves under their armchairs and tables. Compliance with
minimum public health standards is a must, traditional forms of exercise
requiring physical interaction and leading to a mass gathering particularly
evacuation drills were discouraged as part of the NSED during the COVID-19
pandemic. MDRRMO disseminated the information about the occurrence of
earthquake as well as the needs to carry out a drill to enhance their
awareness in the safety measures before, during and after the earthquake.
There were the ducking, covering and holding, watching out for falling
objects, keeping calm and avoiding panic.

All offices and barangays were required to submit documentation (short


video, photos to the HINUNDAYAN DRRMO group chat. The drill was carried
out simultaneously, smoothly and a rating of very satisfactory.

Results and The over - all rating of the said drill is very satisfactory.
