REASONS FOR CHOOSING

THIS TOPIC
The use of marijuana has become widespread in Jamaica especially in the western region.
Due to the increase in use of the drug in mainly elders, teenagers who look up to those elders
have adopted the idea that it is good to smoke and continue to smoke marijuana. These uses in
the teenagers from home where their elders are have now transferred into some schools where
they have brought the drug. As a result of peer pressure and influence these teenagers have bring
the drug to other students, who at once were doing well in school but since introduced have
changed. This change is now being seen in a lot of other students who are also using the drug and
have raised an alarm to teachers and even principals, as students are not doing what they go to
school to do but instead are indulging in other activities which are for adults such as the use of
marijuana. So it is my aim to know how the use of marijuana affects these students and what can
be done to lessen such use and continue to build on the educational path that they should take as
this will benefit them ( the users) and our country.

METHOD OF
INVESTIGATION
In order to collect data for this research a questionnaire was be used. A questionnaire can
be defined as a set of printed or written questions with a choice of answers, devised for the
purposes of a survey or statistical study. A questionnaire was used because it has many
advantages which are:

 they are relatively easy to analyse

 a large sample of the given population can be contacted at relatively low cost;
 they are simple to administer;
 the format is familiar to most respondents;
 they should be simple and quick for the respondent to complete
 information is collected in a standardised way
 they are usually straightforward to analyse
 they can be used for sensitive topics which users may feel uncomfortable speaking to an
interviewer about
 Respondents have time to think about their answers; they are not usually required to reply
immediately.

A total of 45 questionnaires were printed and each consisted of 20 questions. The

questions required only short answers and to tick a box. The respondents were not required to
include their names or any personal data such as where they live as this research is to get a
general idea of what is happening.
