Lesson 4:Planes or Sections of Human Body

Lesson Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
a. identify the different of the human body;
b. differentiate the different planes of the human body;and
c. Analyze the importance of understanding the planes of human
body.

Readings:
Body Planes or Sections
To visualize the internal structures and the relationship of body structures,
it is necessary to divide or cut (make a section) through an imaginary line
(a plane). The three types of planes or sections are as follows:

Sagittal is a cut along the lengthwise, or longitudinal, plane of


the
the body or any parts, dividing the body into right and left
parts.

* Midsagittal or Median a sagittal plane which


divides the body into two equal halves.

Frontal or Coronal is a cut along a lengthwise plane that


divides the body or (or an organ) into anterior (front) and

posterior (back) parts.

Transverse is cut along a horizontal or crosswise plane,


dividing the body or organ into superior (upper) and
inferior (lower) parts.
