EA_Gatekeeper 2200 Model Line

Ultimate flexibility, reliability & performance
The EA_Gatekeeper provides distributed intelligence throughout the
EnergyAxis AMI network. It transmits schedules, collects meter data,
manages firmware updates, and enforces communication priorities as well as
establishing secure and robust communication paths–even during outages.
All EA_Gatekeepers use the standard Honeywell gatekeeper electronics
module to provide data collection and communication on the EnergyAxis
mesh network.
Utilities can select the gatekeeper style and options that meet the
requirements for their geographies and their communications infrastructure.
See the product guide (PG42-1023) and the data sheet (EMT-DS-NAEN-
001003) for more information on the role gatekeepers play in the network as
well as information on the meter-based EA_Gatekeeper.
The various gatekeeper components are assembled and protected in a NEMA Superior performance, robust design, and
enclosure. Like the meter-based gatekeeper, the core of a gatekeeper 2200 multiple deployment options coupled with

WAN flexibility
Honeywell’s EA_Gatekeeper enables utilities to change the wide area network
(WAN) media across the entire system or at a single point. The change-out
requires minimal service effort by the utility in the field, saving the cost and
time of returning the gatekeeper to the manufacturer for reconfiguration.
This also simplifies purchasing and inventory tracking, and allows the utility
to adapt its WAN communications to take advantage of future technology
development and price reductions.
The product is designed to support the most commonly used 3rd party WAN
communications options1 and the enclosure is sized with a physical space
designed to accommodate the majority of popular WAN hardware. See Model
2200 gatekeeper questionnaire for more information.

Mounting & powering flexibility

The 2200 model line gatekeepers are designed for easy mounting at a variety
of locations such as a transformer, pole, tower, or building. Gatekeepers can
be used in gas or water only service areas as well as electricity and combined
electricity, water and/or gas service areas. Each gatekeeper comes with
universal mounting hardware that enables the gatekeeper to be installed on a
utility pole, tower, or structure.
An input voltage range of 120 VAC to 277 VAC provides flexibility for powering
the device, particularly on street light installations.

Highly configurable Reduced maintenance Easy to add or change 1. Modem hardware can be sourced by the utility or
third party WAN ordered through Honeywell as a separate line item.

Protection against environmental

degradation
The gatekeeper is housed in a NEMA 4X
rated polycarbonate enclosure designed for 16.7

either indoor or outdoor use. UV stabilized
polycarbonate provides a strong lightweight
housing with brass threaded inserts and
stainless steel hardware for extra corrosion
resistance. Inside the enclosure is a 50 Watt,

Improved surge and electrical transient

protection
The gatekeeper is equipped with an enhanced
3-mode surge protective device to reduce
damage by both common and transverse mode
surges.

Robust design minimizes damage or

tampering
A metal enclosure vent eliminates possibility
of the damage during installation. And,
when locked, the NEMA enclosure prevents
unauthorized personnel from accessing
hazardous electrical components.

Long life battery reduces maintenance

The EA_Gatekeeper uses a pure lead acid battery
which outperforms standard SLA, VRLA, or AGM
technologies in equivalent operational backup EA_Gatekeeper model 2210
environments. Battery replacement interval is
10 years; although it may be somewhat less in
areas with high ambient temperatures.
