The lesson observed was of a student reviewing the introduction to a unit on modern civilization. The initial lesson had been presented and a video made for the
observation. However, due to technical difficulties, no sound was recorded. This video was a review of that lesson. The student was actively engaged in the lesson.
Mr. Krahl displayed positive interactions with the student and seemed to have a good rapport with the student. He related that he takes a genuine interest in
learning about each of his students' strength and needs and then tries to incorporate resources and options in his lessons to address those needs. He
communicated the instructional goals of the lesson to the student prior to beginning the lesson and provided the student with support throughout the lesson. He
created a high interest, visually appealing PowerPoint to present the information. In addition, he included both a couple of built-in assessments slides and a Bell
ringer activity in the PowerPoint. Mrs. Elliott shared that he builds positive relationships with his students. His expectations of his students are clear and concise to
all of his students.

Mr. Krahl activated his student's prior learning by reviewing the concepts, skills and strategies that the student learned from the previous lesson. He was respectful
in his interaction with the student. He encouraged him as he asked the student questions and the student struggled to remember the answer. He allowed the
student to choose the color pencils he wanted to use to create his timeline and caste system diagram. The student wanted to make sure I saw his timeline, so he
turned to the camera and in a Vanna White -like gesture, showed his work. In talking to Mrs. Elliot, she stated that Mr. Krahl is respectful and works well with
students as well as others in their school community. She said that he is a great addition to their program. Mr. Krahl related that he strives to ensure equal learning
opportunities are accessible to each of his students. He also stated that he tries to ensure that he has mutually respectful interactions with any member of his school
community.

Mr. Krahl has created a classroom setting that is both safe and physically comfortable. His interactions with his student promoted respect and positivity. He and
the student displayed positive interaction. He related that to demonstrate fairness, he maintains high expectations for learning. He uses a variety of challenging
instructional approaches to ensure that his students' individual needs are accommodated and to make them feel that they are valued members of the school
community. Mrs. Elliott shared that he plans for each student and their needs. He works extremely hard to ensure that all students are receiving whatever they
need to be successful. In the lesson observed he had built in an assessment that was based on the lesson presented and the students' modifications and
accommodations.

Mr. Krahl provides professional education services in a nondiscriminatory manner. His students are students that are in this alternative placement due to
behavioral issues. However, he has developed a rapport with the students and has exercised authority, such that he's created an atmosphere that is conducive to
learning. Mrs. Elliot related that he has been very helpful in their school community, and they are glad that he is there. She shared that he is a positive role model to
ALL of their students in the building. He has organized a breakfast club that includes his students and other students in the building to build peer social modeling. He
works with other schools during IEP's and communicates in a positive manner.

Mr. Krahl analyzes the strength and weaknesses of his lesson planning and delivery and makes necessary adjustments. He stated that he and Mrs. Elliot had
reflected on his lesson, prior to sending me the video and there were a number of changes and suggestions he planned to implement in his next lesson. He modifies
instruction based on students' understanding. As he presented the lesson, he modified how he was asking a question based on his student's response or lack of
response. He stated that he does value the feedback that he receives from Mrs. Elliot and tries to implement her suggestions. In addition, he stated that he holds
himself to maintaining high expectations for himself. He tries to demonstrate this disposition daily by seeking out constructive feedback from Mrs. Elliot, colleagues
and students.

Mr. Krahl stated that he tries to plan lessons that incorporate interest-based topics, relevant visual references, and preferred learning activities to maximize student
motivation to learn, participate and have academic achievement.
In the lesson observed, Mr. Krahl gave ample wait time for his student to comprehend and then answer his questions. He utilized a variety of types of questions
throughout his lesson. Mrs. Elliot shared learning how to ask varied types of questions of students is an area he is working on. He created a PowerPoint that
sparked curiosity throughout the lesson. Mrs. Elliott shared that he collaborates with her and with co-teachers to learn new ideas and strategies.

According to Mrs. Elliot, Mr. Krahl demonstrates honesty in all teaching responsibilities. He models high morals in regard to trustworthiness, fairness and
truthfulness. He respects students and they in turn respect him. Mrs. Elliott stated that he is respectful to staff, students and administration. He stated that he
models the expectations set for each student and then reinforces his words with action.

Mr. Krahl demonstrated professional friendliness and genuine caring in his interaction with his student. He communicated clearly and kindly to his student. He
called his student by name and actively listened to what his student had to say. He offered genuine praise and gave his student prompts to help him remember a
fact. He stated that he daily tries to reinforce positive feedback and verbal praise with non-verbal behavior and incentives. He stated that he also tries to be child-
focused and strives to deliver a holistic education that addresses /supports both the academic and the non-academic needs of each student. Mrs. Elliott shared that
his lessons aim to meet both the emotional and intellectual needs of his students. He tries to ensure that they are receiving the necessary accommodations and
modifications.

Mr. Krahl demonstrates advocacy for his students by building creative partnerships with educational stakeholders. He sends home daily and weekly notices
recognizing students in the classroom and collaborating with colleagues about the resources available in the community. He said that as an advocate, his goal is to
establish partnerships to ensure all students demonstrate continuous improvement both inside and outside the classroom. The alternative school that he is placed
at is working as a staff to get community involvement. Mrs. Elliot also shared that because they are an alternative school, it is sometimes difficult to get the
community to buy into what they are trying to accomplish.

Mr. Krahl interacts positively with staff, students, families and other stakeholders. He understands and adheres to his teacher responsibilities. He continues to
learn about each of his students and uses research-based practices and interventions. He understands the importance of reflective practice and receives feedback
and modifies his instruction based on feedback that he receives from Mrs. Elliot and me as his field experience supervisor. Mrs. Elliott shared that he always asks
questions and is open to feedback. He is eager to learn and grow as a teacher and learner.
