Q2 Two vertical telegraph poles AB and CD stand 50 m apart on one side of a straight road. At a point P
on the other side of the road, the angle of elevation of the top of both poles is 26° and the angle
BPD is 120° .

B D

Find (i) the width of the road;

(ii) the height of the poles.

Q3 The figure shows a quadrilateral ABCD in which AB = AD , DC = 41cm , BC = 9cm and

∠DAB = ∠DBC = 90D . Calculate

Q5 MN is a building, where N is the base of the building and M is the top of the building. Two
surveyors 10 metres apart, stand at P and Q respectively, looking at the top of the building at M.
Suppose the angles of depression of P and Q from M are 30° and 72° respectively.
Find
(i) the distance between N and Q,
(ii) the distance between P and M.

Q6 The diagram shows a right-angled triangle ABD with a right angle at B. AB = 12 cm, AD = 20 cm
and point C lies on BD such that AC = 13 cm. Find

Q7 A lighthouse stands on top of a cliff overlooking a harbour. A ship is anchored in the harbour 45 m
away from the foot of the cliff. Given that the angle of elevation of the top of the cliff from the ship
is 45° and the angle of depression of the ship from the top of the lighthouse is 60°, find the height of
the lighthouse.
