Do we have any absent for today? None ma'am

e. Passing the assignment

Please prepare your assignment and pass it forward Student's will pass their assignment.

B. Review

“What was our topic yesterday?” Our topic yesterday was about the effects of typhoon.”

“What are the effects of typhoon?”

*Typhoon can destroy buildings and houses

*Typhoons can also affect the natural environment, and

cause harm to trees and other vegetation, including
crops that communities may rely on for sustenance or
trade, or both.)

Very well said!

What are the things you need to prepare in case there

is a typhoon?” *In case there is a typhoon we need to prepare our First
Aid kits, Extra batteries for flashlights and mobile
phones, Store food, Packed clothes in case of
evacuation and a clean and safe drinking water.)

“Very Good!”

Unlocking of difficulties

Kph– Kilometers per hour

PAGASA- Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and
Astronomical Service Administration

“Before we proceed to our next topic

let me check first if you are familiar with some terms

that I will post on the board.”

(student will raise their hand)

(Teacher will post ‘Kph’) “Kph stands for Kilometers per hour"

“Correct!”

(Teacher will post PAGASA) “PAGASA stands for Philippine Atmospheric,

Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration.”

"Excellent!"

C. Motivation

"Do you always watch the news or listen to a radio

broadcast whenever there's a typhoon ? " "Yes ma'am !"

"Great ! If that so, I assume that you've heard of storm

signals ?"
Yes ma'am
"So what are the storm signals?"

"The storm signals are; signal number 1, storm signal

number 2, storm signal number 3, storm signal number
4, and storm signal number 5."
"Very good! Now I will show you pictures of places
affected by different typhoons, I want you to describe
what you see in the picture and try to guess the signal
that was raised. Are you ready ?"

"yes ma'am!"
(Teacher will show a picture)
(Student will raise their hand)

"On the picture some trees were uprooted from the

ground and lots of leaves are scattered. It looks like the
wind during that time was really strong but I'm guessing
that the signal for that place is signal # 1."

(Teacher will reveal if the guess of the student is

correct)

"Great job! This place is in Isabela cagayan, their place

was affected with typhoon lawin.

(The teacher will show the second picture)

(student will raise their hand)

"based on the picture some light posts are down and

there are uprooted trees. I'm guessing that it's in Signal
Great job observation and you are correct ! #3")

Now I will show you another picture

(student will raise their hand)

"Based on the picture there are lots of damages like

even houses made of concrete are seriously damaged.
It's in signal #4"

Very good ! This photo shows the damage that was

made by typhoon yolanda in Tacloban City. It is the
strongest typhoon that hit in the philippines.

(teacher will show last picture) (student will raise their hand)

"the place looks very devastating, there are no houses

seen on the picture and all of the trees are uprooted. I
guess it's in signal #5"

Correct ! So Philippines has not yet experienced a

typhoon signal #5.

D. Presentation

Our lesson for today is all about "Describing the effects

of the winds, given a certain storm warning signal"

(Teacher will post this chart on the board)

Storm Lead time Winds Impacts of

signal no. the wind
(hours) (km/h)
1 36 30-60 No damage
to very
light
damage

2 24 60-100 Light to
moderate
damage

3 18 100-185 Moderate
to heavy
damage

4 12 185-220 Heavy to
very heavy
damage

5 12 More than Very heavy

220 to
widespread
damage

Look at the chart posted on the board, try to analyze

the data presented.

Why do we have storm signals ?

"storm signal warns us on how strong the typhoon that

Very good ! When PAGASA raised storm signal no. 1 in will come in a specific place."
an area, what does it imdicate ?

"It indicates the winds of 30-60kph is expected in that

area and irregular rains may be expected in at least 36
hrs."
Very good ! What would be the impact of the wind?
"No damage, to very light damage"
How about in signal no. 2 ?
"If signal no. 2 is raised, It indicates winds of greater
than 60kph and up to 100kph may be expected in at
least 24hrs."
Correct ! What would be the impact of the wind ?
"Light to moderate damage to the exposed
communities, it means some coconut trees may tilt;
some of them may break, few big trees may be
uprooted, many banana plant may be downed and old
galvanized iron roofing may be peeled off."

Very good! How about in signal no. 3 ? What does it

indicate ?
"Winds of greater than 100kph up to 185 kph may be
expected at least 18hrs."

Very good ! What is the impact of the wind ?

"Many coconut trees may be broken or destroyed.

Almost all banana plants may be downed and a large
number of trees may be uprooted. Rice and corn crops
may suffer heavy losses. Majority of light material
houses may be uprooted or destroyed. There may be
widespread disruption of electrical power and
communication services. In general, moderate to heavy
damage may be experienced, particularly in agricultural
and industrial sectors.

Very well said! In an intance, signal no. 4 is raise, what

does it indicate ? "In signal no. 4 the typhoon has a very strong winds of
more than 185kph may be expected in at least 12 hrs. It
is different from the first three typhoons because it has
a stronger wind impact."

Very good ! What is it's wind impact ?

"Coconut plantations may suffer extensive damage,

many large trees may be uprooted, most residential and
institutional buildings of mixed of mixed construction
may be severely damage, electrical power distribution
and communication services may be severely disrupted
and damage to affected communities can be very
heavy."
Great explanation ! As what I have said ealier, PAGASA
has modified the storm signals and added signal
number five. When signal no. 5 is raised in an area what
does it imply?
"The signal no. 5 implies that wind is more than 220kph
and may be expected in 12 hrs."

How does the wind impact ? "The wind impact is very heavy to widespread damage.
It can make the whole community homeless because
houses even made in stone may be gravely destroyed."
That's correct !

E. Practice

Match each typhoon signals with their corresponding

speed of wind.

A. B.

Signal no. 1 60-100 kph

Signal no. 2 30-60 kph

Signal no. 3 185-220 kph

(students will answer in a piece of paper)
Signal no. 4 more than 220 kph

Signal no. 5 100-185 kph

F. Application

(The class will be divided into two group)

Group 1 - Role playing on how you're going to prepare if

theres a typhoon

Group 2 - News broadcasting about storm warning

signal

Group 1, you are going to make a scene on preparing

for the incoming typhoon . Show us the right thing to do
on how to be prepared.

Group 2, you are going to perform a news broadcasting

based on our lesson about the storm warning signals,
you're going to give us information about the typhoon
and give us warning if it is signal number 1, 2,3,4 or 5

(Students will perform by group)

G. Generalization

How many storm signals do we have ?

Very good ! Based on our discussion we have five storm

"We have five storm signals"
signals. Why do you think PAGASA has created the
storm signal system?

"The PAGASA has created the storm signal system

because our country is often visited by typhoons and in
order for us to be aware on what preparations we're
Why did PAGASA added signal number five in the storm going to do. The storm signal system will help us."
signal system?

"The PAGASA added signal number five in the storm

signal system to give warning on a tropical cyclone
winds of more than 220 kph that are expected within 12
hrs, it is also considered as a super typhoon. It is to raise
pulic awareness so that they will take signal warnings
seriously."
Does is indicate that some typhoons are serious and
some are not? Why?

"No because even if it is in signal number 1,2 or 3 we

should always remain vigilant especially when it comes
to the safety of our family members. Let us not take
typhoons light and act accordingly to what PAGASA is
H. Valuing
telling because they are there to guide and inform us."
We are now living in a generation where it is easy for us
to access information. Relating with our topic, how can
technologies help us in times of typhoons?

"In times of typhoons, it is always important for us to

watch or listen on news and beacause of techologies it
is much easier for us to get informed because we can
access on weather news, read acticles about typhoons
that are about to come and it help us to be more
Very good ! Now on a piece of paper answer this. prepared and avoid serious damages that a typhoon
may cause us."
V. Evaluation

In a 1 whole sheet of paper, write the missing data on

the chart.
