A. Pre-Lesson of Target Skills

Good morning class!

Good morning, ma’am!

I have here an activity at the board. You have to

compare the following objects on the board by
writing the appropriate symbol on the blank. Use
greater than (>), less than (<), or equal (꓿).

1. >
1.

1 12 cm. 2 cm.
2. <
2.

6 cm. 8 cm.

3. 3. <

6 cm. 85 cm.

4.
4. =

100 cm. 1 m.

5.
5. =

12 cm. 12 cm.

Excellent class!
Class, I have here figures. Give the area of the
given figure using square units.
1. 4 square units
1. ________ square units

2. 10 square units
2. ________ square units

3. 6 square units

3. ________ square units

4. 15 square units

4. _______ square units

Pupil’s Activity
Teacher’s Activity
5. 7 square units
5. ________ square units
What figure do you see in the first figure?
Ma’am, it is a figure of a square.
Yes, Carmela.

How about the second figure?

Ma’am, it is a figure of a rectangle.

Yes, Greymarc.

Very good Greymarc!

This time I will show you a picture:

What can you see on the picture?

Ma’am, a sick girl.
Yes, Crizia.

Yes, a sick girl.

Yes, ma’am!
Have you ever experienced being sick?

She takes care of me if I’m sick and she gives me

What does your mother do to make you feel
medicine.
better?

Ma’am, my mother give tablet.

My mother gives me syrup.
What medicine does your mother give you?
Ma’am, she uses medicine cup or a spoon.
Is it a liquid/syrup or a tablet?

What does she use in giving you liquid or a syrup

medicine?

Yes, mothers use medicine cups or a spoon in

giving medicine to their sick child. Pupil’s Activity

Teacher’s Activity Yes, Ma’am

We should thank our mother for taking care of us

when we are sick. Am I understood? We don’t know Ma’am.

Now, why do you think mothers use

medicine cups in giving medicines?
Our mothers use medicine cups in giving
medicine to be sure that the amount of medicine
she gives is accurate.

B. Introduction No Ma’am.

Class, I have here a medicine cup. Do you know

how to use this in measuring the medicine you are
about to take?

When we buy medicines or some products that

are liquid, we look at the size of the bottle to know
the amount of liquid inside the bottle. We don’t know Ma’am.

Do you know on what to use to measure the

amount of the liquid in the bottle?

Okay, this morning we are going to talk about

Identifying and Using Appropriate Unit of
Measuring Tool in Finding the Capacity of
Containers in measuring liquids.

C. Teaching/Modelling

This medicine cup is used to measure

medicine liquid medicines. And we only need a
small amount to take that is why we use milliliter.
When we buy big bottled soft drinks we say
liters. Because the capacity of a small container is
given in milliliter while that of a big one is liter.

The more amount of liquid, we use liter and

less amount liquid we use milliliter. Like the water
in this medicine dropper we have only 1 milliliter
(teacher shows a medicine dropper)
while this cola we have 1 liter.
1 liter is much more than 1 milliliter because
1 liter = 1, 000 milliliter or
1, 000 milliliter = to 1 liter. Pupil’s Activity

Liter can be written as L. and milliliter as Ml.

Do you understand, children? Yes, Ma’am.
Teacher’s Activity

Now, let us take a look at these two bottle of cola.

(teacher shows real objects)

If you look at the labels, you can see (the

teacher let the children read the capacity of the
two bottled cola) the capacity of the bigger bottle
is 1 liter, while the smaller bottle is only 375
milliliter.

Cola is liquid that is why it is measured in liter

or milliliter. Liter or milliliter are used to measure
the capacity of liquids.

Big containers contain liters of liquids and

small containers contain milliliters of liquids.
Yes, Ma’am.
Liter is used to measure more amount of liquid
and it is written as l.

Milliliter is used to measure small amount of

water and it is abbreviated as ml.

Am I understood class?

Ma’am, they are big containers.

(The teacher will show different
bottles/containers.)

Now, this group of bottles can contain liters of

liquid. (Teacher presents group of big containers)
this group of containers can contain liters/l.

What can you say about this group of Ma’am, they are small containers.
containers?

(Teacher presents group of small containers) This

of group containers can contain only milliliters of
liquids. Pupil’s Activity

What can you say about this group of

containers?

Remember children, that (show 1 ml. of liquid)

this is 1 ml while this (show 1 liter of liquid)
1 liter is equal to 1, 000 ml and

Teacher’s Activity

Ma’am, our lesson for today is about showing and

1,000 ml is = to 1 l. finding capacity using appropriate unit of
1 liter is much more than 1 ml. measuring tool in liter and milliliter.

Liter or l refers to more amount of water and

milliliters or ml refers to less amount of water.
D. Guided Practice
Ma’am, the two appropriate unit of measure
Now, what is our lesson for today? to be used in measuring liquid are liters and
milliliters.
Yes, Hervy.

Very good, Hervy! Ma’am, the unit of measure used in measuring

more liquid is liter.
What are the two appropriate unit of measure
to be used in measuring liquids?

Yes, Jomae Rose.

Ma’am, the unit of measure used in measuring
less liquid is milliliter.

Very good!
Which of the two unit of measuring tools is
used to measure more amount of water?

Yes, Maricel. Ma’am, liter is written as l.

How about the unit of measuring tool that

could measure less amount of water?

Yes, Dally.
Ma’am, milliliter can be written as ml.
Pupil’s Activity

Very good!
How do we write abbreviate liter?

Yes, Kyle.

Very good!
How about milliliter?
Jasmin, will you please answer. (Possible answers)
Teacher’s Activity
1. l 6.
2. l 7. milliliter
Very good. 3. ml 8. milliliter
4. ml 9. liter
5. ml 10. milliliter
Now, I have here different containers. You give
the unit of measure you will use for each
container.
(The teacher shows real objects)
Say liter or milliliter.
1. pitcher 6.
2. Joy dishwashing liquid 7. Medicine cup
3. spoon 8. glass
4. Perfume bottle 9. big soft drink
bottle Liter Milliliter
5. Dropper 10. lotion

Very good, class!

This time, I will group you into three.
Each group will be given an activity.

Group 1
Direction: Put the following pictures on the right
column.

Liter Milliliter

Group 2
Direction: Tell what unit of measure to be used in
measuring the capacity of the container using liter
or milliliter.

following:

Liter/l Milliliter/ml
1. liter or l.
1. 1. 2. oil in sachet milliliter or ml.

Now, get a sheet of paper and answer this
activity.

Direction: Write on the blank before the number

the appropriate measuring tools for each product.
Write liter (l) or milliliter (ml).
