Diabetes

Millions of people have diabetes in the world. Only in England, there are 3 million diabetes people.
What is diabetes?

Our body needs glucose for energy. We take glucose from sweet foods and drinks.

Pancreas makes the hormone insulin in the body and this insulin regulates the glucose level
carefully. The diabetics’ pancreas does not produce enough insulin. So, we can say, diabetes is a
pancreas disease.

There are two types of diabetes. In Type 1 diabetes, the pancreas doesn’t produce insulin. People
usually have Type 1 diabetes often in early childhood or teenage years. In Type 2 diabetes, the
pancreas doesn’t make enough insulin. Generally, people over 45 years old or overweight people
have Type 2 diabetes.

There are many symptoms for diabetes. Diabetics need to urinate very often. They usually feel
thirsty and hungry. They can’t see well. The cuts do not heal easily. They sometimes lose weight
easily. They feel tired. Their mouth is usually dry. Everybody with these symptoms should see a
doctor for a check up.
