Digital Thinking (Session 1)

What is skill? What is a digital skill ?

A skill refers to a specific area of competence to execute a task, for
example, writing, dancing and speaking. Digital skills refer to a wide
variety of abilities that enable one to understand and use technological
tools, devices, applications, systems, and networks. It relates to the
ability of a person to create, use, manage, and exchange information
online in a beneficial and useful way.

What is digital literacy ?

Digital literacy refers to the skills you need to have in order to work,
live, study and play in today's world using digital tools, technologies,
platforms, social media applications, computers, mobile devices, etc.
It also requires one to understand the limitations of technology, the
dangers involved in using them, putting in place necessary safeguards
to secure oneself and one's interests from malicious or unsafe
technologies, products and services.

To build a digital product the following requirements should be met :-

1. Desirable (wanted by many people)
2. Feasible (Should be completed in a limited time)
3. Viable (launched at digital market)

Researches should be done for analysing the problem on :-

1. Majority (No. of people facing problems)
2. Reasons (Why needed ?)
3. Opportunities (Problems on the available solutions)
4. Profit (Profits on the available solutions)
Points to remember while making an app :-
1. Intended Action (my target)
2. Primary User (people using the app)
3. Desired Effect (result)

According to design thinking we have to at first identify as many

number of solution possible for a particular problem and then
eliminate on the basis of the following criteria :-

After making a primary product we have to do the followings :-

1. Brainstorming (Revision of the product)
2. Prototypes (Testing sample products)
3. Experts Opinion (Feedback by the used people)
3D Modelling (Session 2)

What is design ?
Design is the process of envisioning and planning the creation of
objects, products, systems, buildings, vehicles, etc. It is a user-centred
approach to create solutions for people's needs or desires. It involves
thinking through how an object or a product should look like, how it
should function, the components that make it, and the way the
components interact with each other to produce the desired result.
Design involves representing the thought-process in the form of a
two-dimensional sketch, or as a three-dimensional model. Designing
an object or product before physically building it helps the designer
address its intended use, satisfy users, reduce mistakes, minimize
risks, and improve the overall outcome.

What is 3D modelling ?
A 3D model is a three-dimensional design of a physical object or
product created using a software tool. The 3D model so created can be
physically given shape using a 3D printer. 3D models are used in
video games, movies (animations, special-effects, etc.), architecture,
illustration, engineering, and commercial advertising.
3D modelling catches errors in design before the design is put to real-
world use. Using 3D modelling tools, you can make quick changes to
your idea or product design before physically building it.

What is CAD (Computer Aided Design) ?

Computer Aided Design is a software technology which is used for
designing physical objects and for technical documentation which
replaces the traditional drafting with an automated process. It is used
in the creation, modification, analysis or optimization of a device.
Importance of CAD :-

Application of CAD :-

What is Engineering Drawing ?

An engineering drawing shows the necessary orthographic views of
the part of manufacture in line form with dimensions, linear and
geometric tolerances, surface finishes and material data.

There are 4 general views of an Engineer Drawing:-

Creating 3-D models :-
3D models can be created by using Collab CAD software from
National Informatics Centre (NIC).

Collab CAD Manual :-

1. At first we have to download the Collab CAD software from :-
(https://collabcad.gov.in/eCollabCAD/login)
2. We have to extract the zip files and run the setup (Last folder).
3. When we will open, it will look something like this :-

4. File -> New -> Design mode ->

Part design :- Creating a single part
Assembly design :- Assemble all the created parts
5. File -> New -> Unit -> millimetre (mm) / inch
6. File -> New -> Drafting Stand -> IS (world) / ANSI (American)
