Question #01
(a) For Boolean inputs A and B, prove that (𝐴 + 𝐴𝐵̅ ) = 𝐴 + 𝐵. (2)
(b) What are the conditions of BJT (Base Emitter Configuration) in terms of base current to work
in active and saturation modes? (2)
(c) Analyze the circuits in Figure 1 and draw & label the output. Use the practical model of diode.
(6)

(d) For an RLC series circuit, consider the value of R as 100 Ω, L as 40 𝑚𝐻 and C as 100 𝜇𝐹.
will the response be overdamped, underdamped, or critically damped?
For the same 𝑅 and 𝐶 value, what would be the value of L to get the critically damped

response of the system. 𝜔𝑛 = , 𝜉 = 2 𝑅√𝐿 . (5)

(a) For given truth table, design a digital circuit using Karnaugh map. Outline all the steps clearly
and analyze the output.
(b) Simplify the following Boolean expression by using the Karnaugh map. Outline all the steps
and design a digital circuit of the simplified expression and analyze the output. (10)

𝐹 = 𝐴𝐵̅ 𝐶̅ + 𝐴𝐷 ̅ + 𝐴𝐵̅ 𝐶 + 𝐴̅𝐵̅ 𝐶𝐷

(c) The signed numbers are given in table below. (5)
Binary number Form
11000101 sign magnitude
10111010 1’s complement
10111011 2’s complement
Find the decimal value of the given signed numbers and compare your results.

Question #03 (CLO3, PLO2, C4)

(a) A common base-emitter BJT circuit is shown in Figure 2. Analyze this circuit by using the load
lines and find the maximum peak of the base current 𝐼𝑏(𝑝𝑒𝑎𝑘) for linear amplification.

Use 𝑉𝐵𝐵 = 10, 𝑉𝐶𝐶 = 24𝑉, 𝑅𝐶 = 800Ω, 𝑅𝐵 = 50𝑘Ω, 𝛽𝐷𝐶 = 100 (10)

(b) Now increase the value of 𝑅𝐵 by 20% and decrease the value of 𝑅𝐶 by 20%. Again, analyze this
circuit by using the load lines and find the maximum peak of the base current 𝐼𝑏(𝑝𝑒𝑎𝑘) for linear
amplification. Compare you results and comments. (10)
