How sport can help in post-pandemic recovery

Last year the UN invited Laureus Sport for Good to contribute to a report on what role sport could
play in healing a society in the aftermath of COVID-19.

Moses, Chairman of Laureus Sport for Good and a double Olympic gold medalist, said: “Now that
everyone is watching top sport again - both in sports venues and on TV - it is a good time for us all to
remember that there is still a large section of society that desperately needs our support. Sports can
play an important part in helping to rebuild society and support those who have lived through the
trauma of the pandemic on top of already challenging circumstances.”

Daniela Bas, Director, Division for Inclusive Social Development, United Nations Department of
Economic and Social Affairs said: “Laureus was a valued contributor to the report of the United
Nations Secretary General. We welcome the contribution of the Sport for Development sector. We
believe that sport can play a critical role in doing so and encourage all to explore it as a cost-effective
way to drive genuine social change." 

.Dr Morten Schmidt, Laureus Global Director of Programmes and Grants, said: “Nelson Mandela, our
first Patron, said ‘Sport has the power to change the world’ which has been our raison d’etre and I live
in hope that, we can make that come true in these particularly challenging circumstances.”

our overall health and well-being, and its role in healing a society. At present, in what ways does
sports help in rebuilding a society and drive social change in this time of crisis? Cite specific
evidences and defend your answer.
2. With the aftermath of COVID-19, lack of access to regular sporting or exercise led many individuals
to become less physically active, had a sedentary lifestyle and experienced mental health impacts in
the face of isolation from normal social life. Considering the changes/restrictions we need to adapt in
this post-pandemic time, in what specific ways can you do to be “sports ready” and to actively
participate in sport-related activities? Also, how will you be able to influence and encourage others to
recognize sports as an avenue towards an active lifestyle and as personal sense of healing? Cite

understand and enhance both team and player performance. Sports analysis can start by writing up
articles of your own analysis and sharing it to different people for them to be guided on the different
happenings and trends in the sport community (S). As a sport enthusiast, you will be working as a
sports blogger (R). As such, you are tasked to a create a sports blog (P) about an iconic game from
any sport you have witnessed (G). Your sports blog will be presented in the form of a power point or
creative page (done using any digital software), and your output will be viewed by your teacher (A).

any iconic game from any sport you have witnessed.

 You can also include links of videos and post-game interviews of different players;
 Your blog should contain at least 200-300 words. Include pictures as much as possible;
