PREPARATION FOR

THE BOARD EXAM

COLLEGE OF NURSING
ANNUAL ALUMNI SYMPOSIUM

Ms. Kenny-Lynn B. Baccay, BSN, RN

Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Batch 2007
Valenzuela City Campus
Ever since the pandemic happens everything started to change
especially when it comes to learning. At first, it feels kind of fun because
we're staying at home while learning, we can do multiple tasks while
attending class, or we can do things we love while we're in the class but
when this kind of setup is continuously happening I started to feel like
Online class is not for because I'm easily distracted and lost my focus
and I feel like my just fooling myself because we all know that internet
has everything we need, we can easily search it and just copy and paste
it. The online class is a big challenge for all of us, especially in our field
we need to learn practically, yes it's easy to search on YouTube or
google but learning it face to face is really different and much better
than learning it via YouTube or Google. I'm currently a 3rd-year student
and honestly, I'm not sure if I can survive this course and I'm afraid to
become a 4th-year student because I know that after I graduated from
this course, I need to take the board exam and I don't think that I can
pass it because I know in myself that I'm not well equipped when it
comes to this kind of battle and that's why I'm very grateful to our
University because of the webinars they continuously conduct to help
us, students, to have the motivation and to keep on pursuing our
dreams even if it's hard and draining.

PREPS for the Boards: Review from home edition

Kenny-lynn Baccay, MA (NURSING), RN

Let's do the PREPS:

WHAT'S YOUR PLAN?
Before you begin to do something you must have a plan, that will serve
as a guide throughout your journey.

Create a Plan:
A single study cram session will not suffice. We can't study all of the
subjects in one day, we must a lot plenty of time and effort when we
study.
Study plan is a must because it can track your progression and the
things that you accomplish.
Take into consideration the kind of learner you are. It will help you to
know what suits you better.

Read, Review, Repeat

One of my favorite parts of the webinar because it really show us that

effort is everything. That we can't succeed if we don't put effort. Don't
worry about your IQ. It is not a significant predictor of student
success.
Self-discipline outperforms IQ. Cut down all distractions so you can
totally focus on what you are doing.

Engage
It is really important that when we attend online classes, we must
stay in focus, we cannot do many things at the same time. How will
we participate in class if our attention is not really there? We need to
stay focused so that we can engage, can participate in the class.
Being involved in the lesson will help us to fully understand the
discussion.
Having study groups or buddy is also important, they will be your
support system.
Benefits of having an Online Study:
1. Support and commitment.
2. Discussion and communication.
3. Interaction.
4. Different perspective.
Practice Questions
Taking practice questions will help us enhance retention, that's
why we need to take practice questions seriously and even
though the result is not good, keep on answering because it will
help us to know in which area are we good and bad.

Self-Care
One of the most important, and I will keep this in mind and
heart because most of the time I'm the reason why I'm
suffering, I feel like my efforts are not enough and I love
comparing myself to other people, which is no good.
Self-care is equal to success.
The gentle art of loving yourself.
Take weekends seriously
Make time for hobbies you enjoy.
Set boundaries.
Don't be guilty when you rest.
Practice self-compassion.
Self-compassion is simply giving the same kindness to ourselves
that we would give to others. - Christopher Germer
Focus on a small goal. Celebrate small wins.
I love this part because it's a great reminder for me to always
be kind and learn to love myself. That I don't need to be hard
on myself, I just need to accept and learn to wait for my
success, because everyone has their own timeline in success.
GRADES DON'T DETERMINE WHO YOU ARE.
GRADES DON’T SHOW THE AMOUNT OF EFFORT
YOU PUT IN.
NOT ALL LEARNING IS DONE IN SCHOOL.
YOUR BOARD RATING WILL NOT DEFINE YOUR
PERFORMANCE AS A NURSE.
DON'T BE HARD ON YOURSELF.
EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER.

And lastly, this great great reminder that GRADES WILL NOT
REALLY DEFINE WHO WE ARE. I hope that this kind of webinar will
continuously influence students like me to keep on pushing and
pursuing our dreams until we reach the top.

SYMPOSIUM

Perseverance is the ability to keep facing constant challenges. It is
the ability to ignore distractions and focus. For every success, there
are tons of failures. For those who know the secret, these failures help
them identify paths to failure knowing well that they will find the right
path to success. Knowing the secret that excites these people
because it is with the secret that is ingrained in their souls that they
can overcome all those who have given up in the face of obstacles,
all those who have used failures like a reason to give up, and all those
who think success comes. before doing. Perseverance is hard; it's not
for the faint of heart. It gives you the feeling of a conqueror after a
fight. If I had to give perseverance a taste, I would say that
persistence has a bittersweet taste. An initial taste of struggle but was
ultimately defeated by victory. Persevere with the smell of sweat.
Perseverance sounded like the battle cry of a brave army that
drowned out fear.
