TS2924 SYSTEM ANALYSIS AND DESIGN

Guidelines for Preliminary Investigation and System Requirement Report

Objective:

To apply the concepts and skills covered in TS2924 System Analysis and Design
course.

Instructions:

Students are required to prepare two reports. The content of the first report
(Preliminary Investigation and System Requirement Report) will be used as a
basis for the second report, namely the Design Specification Report. Each group is
expected to carry out these activities:

1. Appoint a project leader and a secretary among the group members.

2. Take minutes for each meeting and attach them at the end of the
Preliminary Investigation Report.
3. Select an organization and describe one of its existing information
systems (manual or computerized that needs improvement) in use which
includes the current business operations
4. Define the system problems and analyze them
5. Propose an information system that can benefit the organization
6. Describe how the new information system can be beneficial to the
organization
7. Identify the information system user
8. Identify system objectives, constraints and scope
9. Draw a logical data model and data flow diagram for the current system
10. Propose the new system design (database, process and interface)
11. State the fact finding technique(s) that are used to gather information
(survey, interview, observation, etc.) and attach the materials at the end of the
