A Big Bang and Expanding Universe Experiment

Table 1.1 Distance and speed of dots in every balloon

Time to fully inflate the balloon: 4 seconds.

Questions:

1. How do the dots move relative to one another as the balloon expands?
As the balloon expands, the dots moved farther away from the reference dot. As I observed
during my experiment, the farther the distance from the reference dot, the faster it moves. That is why
there is an increase in the changes of distance from distance 1 and distance 2.

2. How does the inflated balloon serve as a good model for the expanding universe?
For me, the inflated balloon serve as a good model in a way that it gives us a simple and more
accurate explanation regarding the expansion of the universe. This experiment enables us the students
to have an idea and to understand more how the expansion happens.

3. In what ways might this balloon be not a good model for the expanding universe?
This balloon may not be a good model for the expanding universe in a way that balloons doesn't
really looked exactly as an expanding universe. However, this experiment only highlights that space
itself is stretching out between galaxies like the rubber stretches when a balloon is inflated. It only
shows how it expands from each other just like what happened to the dots.
