Toolbox Meetings

Toolbox meeting is held to discuss the tasks (taking into account risk assessment -if any) & assign responsibilities, while
risk assessment involves hazard identification and action taken to mitigate the risks.

Toolbox meetings are held to ensure that all personnel engaged on a task are:

a. Briefed of the task to be undertaken including responsibilities

b. Understand the methods to be employed and the tools to be used.
c. Understand the hazards associated with the task(s).
d. Understand the safety measures that will be in place to control the identified hazards.

The toolbox meetings:

a. Provides an opportunity for personnel involved to contribute to the process both on technical and safety
issues
b. Mandatory for tasks controlled by the permit to work system.
c. May also be held on an impromptu basis, in order to encourage consultation and promote proper teamwork.
d. Typically held just prior commencement of the job or when new sets of personnel take over the task being
performed.
