DETAILED EVENT REPORT

INTRA COLLEGE MULTILINGUAL Poetry competition

Metanoia by the verses

Club In-charge:
Student Coordinators:
Poetry, Poetry gives rhythm to silence, light to the darkness. In poetry,
we find the magic of metaphor, compactness of expression, use of the
five senses, and simplicity or complexity of meaning in a few lines.

We organized the first event of the Literary Club of DSU, for the semester Jan
2021-May2021. Metanoia by the Verses was an intra-college Poetry competition, in three
languages – Kannada, Hindi, and English.
The competition was open for all students at Dayananda Sagar University.

The event was held on the 23rd of January 2021, virtually. Every participant and the panel of
judges were invited to a virtual meeting for the poetry contest. Starting from the registration,
to poem submissions, and then the actual event, it all went graciously virtually, keeping in
mind today's normal.

As mentioned earlier, the Poetry contest was held in three languages – Kannada, Hindi and
English. The topics were chosen and released to the students four days prior to the event and
submissions were accepted until the day prior to the actual event – At this point, each poet’s
submitted poem was screened for plagiarism manually.

Topics for the poetry contest: (English – Hindi - Kannada)

1. A New Morning - एक नई सब ु ह - ೂಸ ಮುಂಾ
2. War and Peace - ु और शांत - ಯುದ ಮತು ಾಂ

Each participant was free to choose either of the topics as the theme to base their poems on.
Each language-oriented session saw a bag of lovely poems for both the topics; You can find
the poems archived and saved in this shared folder: Poems Archive - Metanoia by the Verses.
An order was allotted to the participants prior to the event, and Every participant was allowed
a maximum of 5 (five) minutes to present their poem to us; during which each student had to
enable their cameras and microphones on the virtual meet, while their poem was displayed on
the shared screen.
Each participant’s poem was judged majorly on two fronts:
1. Poetry Writing
● Relevance to theme
● Creativity
● Originality
● Poetic devices
● Figurative Languages

2. Poetry Recitation
● Accuracy
● Presentation
● Voice Articulation
● Expressions
● Dramatic appropriateness

We were esteemed to have our own teachers and highly qualified and experienced external
judges to help gauge our skills at poetry and their respective languages.
