E. Pressure Gauges :Pressure gauges shall 4½” diameter dial, black baked enamel
finished case and ring and shall be 1% accurate over the middle half of scale. The
range of each gauge shall be selected to place the normal operating pressure near
the approximate center of the scale. All pressure gauges shall have polished brass
shut-off cocks and those in water piping shall be equipped with snubbers. Two (2)

gauges shall be installed at points of pressure change (entering and leaving). Gauges
shall be equipped with recalibrator.

F. Flexible Pipe Connectors: Single arch or multiple arch type. Tube and cover shall be
constructed of chlorobutyl elastomer with full faced integral flanges to provide a tight
seal without gaskets. Connectors shall be internally reinforced with high strength
synthetic fibers impregnated with rubber or synthetic compounds as recommended by
connector manufacturer, and steel reinforcing rings. Working pressures and
temperatures shall be as follows:

The expansion tank shall be welded steel, constructed, tested and stamped in
accordance with Section VIII, Division 1 of the ASME Code for a working pressure of

125 psig and air pre-charged.

The tanks shall be supported by steel legs or a base (integral ring mount) for a
vertical installation or steel saddles for horizontal installations. Each tank will have a
heavy-duty butyl/EP DM diaphragm with code approvals ANSI/NSF 61.

2.05 Piping Insulation

A. Aboveground chilled water piping system shall be insulated with cellular glass
insulation conforming to ASTM-C552 with a density of 120 Kg/m3 nominal and a

thermal conductivity of 0.055 w/m/oC (0.38 Btu/in/h/ft2/oF). Piping system shall be


vapor sealed with a self-sealing factory applied facing. The insulation thickness shall
be 50 mm indoors and 75 mm outdoors.

B. Chilled water piping exposed to return air in the ceiling plenum shall be fire rated and
shall have a maximum fire spread rating of 25 and a maximum smoke development
rating of 50.

D. Aboveground exposed chilled water piping (e.g. in the chiller yard, pump shed,

mechanical rooms..etc..) shall be field jacketed with 18 Gauge aluminum helical pipe to
ASTM B209 alloy alclad 3004 with stacked lock seam having a continuous mastic seal.

C. All work, materials and equipment shall be properly protected during construction and
when finally delivered, shall be free from blemish or injury of any nature and

3.03 Welding

A. The contractor shall be responsible for the quality of welding done. The suitability of
the welding procedure and the quality of the welding shall be determined by testing
the welder’s ability to make sound welds under standard working conditions with the
equipment to be used in the work of this Project. Welders shall be qualified in
accordance with GI 1401.081 for metallic piping.

B. The determination of the qualification of the welders shall be in accordance with the
applicable portion of the aforementioned reference for gas and electric arc welding.
Each welder shall be tested by the contractor at the Site. These tests shall be
performed in the presence of Saudi Aramco Representatives. Welders shall be tested
for welding materials in the various positions required, including weld in the axis of the
material vertical and with the axis horizontal without rolling. Each welder shall be
required to identify his WORK with a code marking, and the listing of the names of the
welders with corresponding code marks shall be furnished to Saudi Aramco
Representative. Welders making defective welds during qualification tests and

welders responsible for making defective welds after passing the test shall be given a
re-qualification test. Welders failing a re-qualification test shall not be permitted to

2. All pipe work and valves shall be installed in strict accordance with the
manufacturer’s recommendations and in accordance with the applicable
ENGG CERT

3. All pipe work and valves shall be installed as shown on the Construction
Drawings and on the approved shop drawings.

4. Piping conveying water of any kind shall be installed with a pitch to drain
unless otherwise shown on the Construction Drawings. In cases where
branches are installed and connected into vertical risers, each branch shall
pitch back to its respective riser.

5. Piping shall be arranged to facilitate removal of coils and tube bundles.

6. Threaded pipe shall be cut square. After cutting and before threading, all pipe
shall be reamed and shall have burrs removed. Before pipe is installed,
remove any foreign matter. All screwed joints shall be made with approved
pipe thread compound. Compound shall be applied to the male treads only
and shall be non-hardening. Threads shall be clean-cut and tapered. Not
more than two (2) threads on the pipe shall remain exposed and shall be
coated for protection against rusting. Caulking threaded joints to stop or

3.07 Cleaning and Adjusting

A. Pipes, strainers and valves shall be cleaned free of scale and thoroughly flushed of all
foreign matter. Temporary bypass shall be provided for all water coils to prevent
flushing water from passing though coils. All strainers and valve shall be thoroughly
cleaned. Equipment shall be wiped clean, with all traces of oil, dust, dirt, or paint

F. Contractor shall ensure that adequate safety precautions are observed for the
duration of testing and that all personnel not involved in testing are cleared from the

system shall be de-pressurized and drained by the contractor and returned to its
normal operating condition. Contractor shall re-install all equipment and instruments
