Financial Aid Reflection

1. Federal Financial Aid- What are the different types of federal financial aid available to
students? How do you apply for federal financial aid? What benefits do students receive
from this type of financial aid?
There are many types of federal financial aid available to students. These include grants,
scholarships, work-study jobs, loans, aid for military families, aid for international study, and
other resources from the federal government. In order to apply for federal financial aid,
students must complete the FAFSA form. If a student qualifies, they may receive the following
benefits: grants, work-study, loans, and scholarships.
2. State Financial Aid- What are the different types of state aid available to students? How
do you apply for state financial aid? What benefits do students receive from this type of
financial aid?
There are many types of state financial aid available to students. These include state
grants, scholarships, loans, and tuition waivers. In order to apply for state financial aid,
students must complete the FAFSA form, apply early to maximize their aid, review the
student aid report, make corrections, if necessary, respond to aid offers, accept the aid
you want, and receive Aid. Financial aid gives students the means to afford and attend
college, university, and trade school. Basically, it helps students pay for the rising costs of
higher education — tuition, room and board, books and supplies, and transportation.
3. School Specific Financial Aid- Which schools did you research? Describe one grant or
scholarship that is offered at each school. What benefits do students receive from this
type of financial aid?
The schools that I researched were California State University and San Diego State
University . At California State University, the TEACH grant offers students many benefits.
These benefits include $4000 per year. In addition, at San Diego State University, the
Aztec scholarship offers students many benefits. These benefits include paying for my
college.
4. Private Scholarships- Describe two scholarships that you found interesting during your
research. What are the benefits of using this type of aid to fund your education?
Two private scholarships that I researched include Coca-Cola scholars program and Dell
scholars program. These scholarships offer students many benefits to help fund their
education. For example, the Coca-Cola scholars program offers students scholarships of
$20,000. In addition, the Dell scholars program offers students $20,000, a laptop, and
credits for textbooks.
5. Military Financial Aid- Do you or your family plan to or have served in the military? If so,
describe at least one military financial aid program that is available to you? What
benefits do students receive from this type of financial aid?
My family has not served in the military and I plan not to serve in the military.
6. Personal Financial Aid Plan- After reviewing the different types of financial aid available
to students, what plan do you have for covering the costs of post-secondary education?
Write a paragraph that summarizes the total cost you expect to pay for post-secondary
education, the sources of aid you plan to use to cover these costs, and when and how
you plan to apply for each program. You may also need to consider alternate sources of
income such as a college fund or savings plan that has already been set aside.
After researching the costs of attending school and the sources of financial aid available
to me, I have created the following plan to help me cover the costs of post-secondary
education. It will cost approximately $9,149 a year. In order to pay for these costs, I plan
to apply to a program that can help me get financial aid. In addition, I plan to use
alternate sources of income to fund my education including getting a job.
