High school’s history
The National Humanitarian High School
“St. st. Cyril and Metodius” is a
modern school with glorious history.

The High school entered into the heritage


of the first secondary school in South-
west Bulgaria, which was founded in
Thessalonica in 1880.

In 1920 the Thessalonica's secondary


school was established in Gorna
Dzhumaya, today’s Blagoevgrad.

Within the first few years after the


moving, the high school became an
intellectual allegory for the local
community.
The High School nowadays
The National Humanitarian High School teaches teenagers from
Blagoevgrad region. There are two departments within the
educational system of the high school – humanitarian studies
and arts.
The Humanitarian department has the majors Bulgarian language
and literature and history both intensive foreign languages
studying. The Art department has two majors – music and fine
arts both intensive foreign languages studying.
There are about 700 students from the age of 14 to the age of
18-19 years old. They have different interests about the
humanitarian studies and fine arts.
The students are very active and take part in various projects.
The National Humanitarian High School is one of the three
Bulgarian schools that are working on the "Dependencies'
prevention" project. Within this project there are classes that
give students the healthful way of living knowledge.
The main goal of the project is students to gain knowledge, to
form a proper attitude, and get into skills for healthful live, and
of course risky behavior avoidance. The students that are
studying English, take big part on the e-twinning project under
the subject "Integrating ICT into the curriculum: teaching and
learning computer science and second language".
The fine arts broaden the
student’s creative work and
emotional expression. The
main goal is students to gain
art literacy and
expressiveness of fine arts.
The syllabus includes
drawing, art of
painting, engraving, sculptur
e, woodcarving, design, and
history of art.

The students show their individual creativity and


fine arts skills on general art exhibitions, which are
annually organized.

In 1989 within the National
humanitarian high school was made
music class with intensive music
learning . Within that division, the
students acquire all types of the
music instruments - classic and
folklores; also, they acquire
classic, folk, jazz, and pop
singing, as well as the theory of

festivals in Greece and Turkey.
In 2007 the High school and the
Art academy ”Musics horizons”,
Seres, Greece concluded an
agreement (joined a contract) for
the cooperation in the knowledge
domain of the music culture and
the music teaching.
The city of Blagoevgrad
Blagoevgrad is situated next to the south-west flanks of Rila
mountain, in the rivers Blagoevgrad’s Bistritza and Struma’s
valleys. Blagoevgrad is located in about 100 kilometers south
from Sofia - the capital city of Bulgaria.
The city is one of the confirmed centers of higher education in
Bulgaria. Two of the biggest universities of the country – the South-
west university “Neofit Rilski” and the American university in
Bulgaria, are found here and they specify its youth appearance fill it
out with vital spark during the hole year. Blagoevgrad has
longstanding traditions of the professional and mass sport
development and also offers good conditions for sport pastimes
and break.
