Part II

In relation to our lecture discussion and as practice for you identify the numbered symbols in
the P&ID below (3pts. each) and based on your understanding provide a brief and
comprehensive analysis about the process that the P&ID does (4pts.).

1. Flow Transmitter Discrete Instrument Field-Mounted at Loop 42

2. Flow Indicating Controller Discrete Instrument Main Control Panel Front-Mounted at Loop 42

3. Pressure Differential Transmitter Discrete Instrument Field-Mounted at Loop 42

4. Flow Valve Discrete Instrument Field Mounted at Loop 42

5. Instrument Supply or Process Connection

6. Analog Signal

7. Motor-driven axial compressor

8. Temperature Transmitter Discrete Instrument Field Mounted at Loop 43

10. Temperature Transmitter Discrete Instrument Field Mounted at Loop 41

11. Temperature Indicating Recorder Discrete Instrument Auxiliary Control Panel Front-Mounted at Loop 41

12. Temperature Indicating Recorder Discrete Instrument Auxiliary Control Panel Front-Mounted at Loop 43

Analysis:
Between process flow diagrams and loop diagrams, process and instrument diagrams fall somewhere in the center. The arrangement of all necessary process vessels,
pipelines, and gear is shown in a process and instrument diagram, but instruments are superimposed on the figure to indicate what is monitored and controlled. The flow of
the process, as well as the flow of data between the devices that measure and regulate it.
The compressor is equipped with additional equipment than merely a flow transmitter. A differential pressure transmitter, a flow indication controller, and a "recycle" control
valve allow part of the vapor from the discharge line of the compressor to return to the compressor's suction line. A pair of temperature transmitters can also be seen, which
report suction and discharge line temperatures to an indicator recorder.
