The term “tradition” carries no simple definition.

It presents as a word bearing a

comprehensive definition, encompassing a society’s past, present, and future
countenance. In our own national context, the traditions of Pakistan carry a huge impact
over our general population. Our local traditions present as varied as our different
cultural and linguistic populations. With each of our cultural groups presenting
their own uniqueness and peculiarities, we find a binding force among them all.
Rummaging through the famous Merriam-Webster for searching up the word “tradition”,
it gives us the following definition in a comprehensive style:

“an inherited, established, or customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior (such as a

religious practice or a social custom)”

It is the means of handing down information, beliefs, and customs by word of mouth or
by leading example from one generation to another, without written pedagogy. In its
briefest form, traditions do matter. They represent a vital piece of our culture.
essentially, they help construct the structure and cornerstone of our families and our
society.

Our traditional values remind us that we possess a history. One that delineates our past,
shapes our present and carves out our future. What if we lowly think of our age-old
culture? The day we ignore the true message of our traditions, we are at risk of bruising
the prop of our very identity.

Why Are Traditions Important For Any Society?

Even if don’t need it, we would reiterate the importance that a set of traditions holds for
a given society. With time, social customs may diminish or alter their execution. But, for
one thing, they hardly get abolished or devalued. Coming to speak of our society that
comes off with eastern values, our traditions and norms are well deep-rooted within our
social system.

Traditions are often larger-than-life bits and pieces of one’s historical past that do not
seem to follow logical principles. Our traditions act with the likes of a compass for all of
our human relationships and personal interactions.

As we ennoble traditions, so we learn to ennoble ourselves. It is crucial for children to be

a part of family traditions. This associates them to that greater whole and leads to
enhanced empathy, more fulfilling happiness, and engrossed demeanor.

Need to accept our values

We desperately need our traditions so that our family lineages stay stable and strong.
Just how essential are traditional values for us can be judged from the facts listed

The Magnificence And Splendor Within

Culture, customs, and traditions of Pakistan are a pretty combination of the Arab,
Persian and native cultures. However, most of these greatly differ in all regions of the

varying shades. All of these are quite colorful and fascinating.

Islamic touch.

 Our Marital Customs

Like all over the world, marriages in Pakistan are full of subtle hues, music and a huge
assortment of food. Marriages are generally fixed and arranged by the
parents with consent of the would-be partners. This trend, however, is changing now
where marriages of own choice and preference are permitted.
Sometimes, it happens that formal engagements may last from a few months to several
years, owing to certain situations. In most of the cases, the bride and groom meet for the
first time on their wedding day.
Marriages in Pakistan are not merely a union of two individuals, but a long lasting
relation of two families. Nuptial rituals, being an essential part of the traditions of
Pakistan are detailed and usually take four to five days until the actual wedding day.

 Our Eating Habits

The Pakistani cuisines are generally rich in oil and chilies. Unlike the Indian
food, Pakistani dishes must include meat, chicken, and beef, though pork is
completely forbidden as per Islamic injunctions. Although eating habits differ from region
to region, the lynchpin of the Pakistani diet is “chapati” or “roti” prepared from wheat
flour.
It is usually customary to enjoy a dessert after dinner. Curries of meat and chicken laden
with spices are preferred in the southern part. The northern parts prefer barbecuing and
beef. The junk food has turned quite popular in youngsters in urban centers. Our most
indigenous snacks are the samosas and pakoras, deep-fried and served hot with tangy
sauces.

Dances of varying form are very popular in Pakistan. Owing to the Islamic culture, mostly
men participate in dances publicly. Female dancers, however, exhibit their skills in group
dances and in theaters and cinema. Musical instruments like dhol, shehnai, sitar, sarod,
alghoza, and flute are some of the widely used instruments in our cultural music.

The folk music differs from province to province and can be clearly differentiated. Each
folk music piece is the embodiment of the true aspirations and culture of that particular
province. The rock and pop music had made inroads in Pakistan as well nearly three
decades ago.
