1) Make a bullet and plate to be tested individually as separate parts in
SolidWorks. 2) Open both parts in in assembly. Define a reference plane 0.5 mm ahead of plate and mate it coincident with the bullet tip. 3) Save the assembly file with extension .IGES. 4) Start ANSYS Workbench, go to explicit dynamics, define engineering data by right clicking it as edit. 5) Go to engineering data sources, then click on explicit materials (don’t check it otherwise, it will be opened in edit mode). From Outline window select your desired materials (Aluminum, Lead and Steel). 6) Click exit and go back to Workbench. Click on Geometry, edit, import geometry, and click on .iges file previously created. 7) Click on model, define material of both solid parts. Click on Mesh, Generate Mesh. Make sure the mesh is uniform. 8) Click on explicit dynamics, insert velocity, select bullet object, and define value as 800m/s. 9) Click explicit dynamics, insert fixed geometry, select the side faces of plate to pluck it from each side. 10) Click on Solution and add stress and deformation results. 11) Select analysis, put on the end time value. Iterate it by solving and getting a value of end time if an error is occurred. 12) If everything goes well, numerical model will be solved, and animation could be observed from bottom.
