Summative Assessment

Standard: W.2.1 Write opinion pieces that introduce the topic or book being written about,
express an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because,
and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.

Learning Objective: By using graphic organizer and feedback, students will complete their
opinion piece by providing reasoning and using linking words to create a storefront they would
open.

Assessment Description: After learning about goods and services in the students
community.Student will be asked to create a storefront where they will sell a good or service.
Students will be asked to write about their store front and give reasoning to why they choose
that store front and include a concluding statement. On day three students will be asked to
create their final draft and share their ideas.

Rationale: This assessment aligns with the writing standard W.2.1 because students will be
asked to write an opinion piece about their store front. Students will also be asked to provide
reasoning to why they choose that store front and also use linking words.

Scoring Guide: Students will be assessed by TC having a checklist. TC will have requirements
that will need to be included in students' final draft. For students to receive full points they need
to tell about their store front, provide reasoning, use linking words and have correct punctuation.

Differentiation: For struggling learners TC will guide students during their writing process and
provide support, so students will still have the same checklist they need to follow in order to
receive all points.
