Man’s Desire for happiness

All of us desire for happiness. It is natural for us to seek happiness and we observe people are
doing everything to be happy. One famous saying goes: “You only live once” (YOLO). This
principle is inviting individuals to do whatever they want in their life. People are doing all kinds
of things even if it’s bad or sinful just to be happy. This is not what our Catholic tradition is
teaching. With this I want you to research the Catholic view of happiness which we can see in
relation to the “Beatitudes”.

Questions:

1.       What are the beatitudes?

2.       What is the relation of the beatitudes to our happiness?

3.       What is its purpose?

4.       Do we need this for our happiness?

The Beatitudes are sayings attributed to Jesus, and in particular eight blessings recounted by
Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew, and four in the Sermon on the Plain
in the Gospel of Luke, followed by four woes which mirror the blessings. Each is a proverb-like
proclamation, without narrative. The Beatitudes, named after the first words of those sayings in
the Latin Vulgate Bible beati sunt, "blessed are", explain the blessedness of individuals who have
particular attributes or experiences that are unique to those who belong to the Kingdom of
Heaven. The Sermon on the Mount contains the Beatitudes, which are Jesus' teachings (Matthew
5:1-10). We shall have a joyful Christian life if we live according to the Beatitudes, Jesus tells.
God's promises to Abraham and his descendants are fulfilled in the Beatitudes, which explain the
blessings we shall receive as faithful followers of Christ.

The beatitudes constantly illustrate this happiness in the second through seventh beatitudes.
Those who are termed happy enter the kingdom of heaven, which provides them with all they
desire: they are soothed, inherit the earth, are content, get mercy, see God, and are God's
offspring. The beatitudes primarily instruct us on how to conduct ourselves in our relationship
with God. Blessedness, the aspects of God's kingdom that bring us peace, is what Jesus provides
us. This is distinct from happiness, which is a fleeting emotion. The effect of a divine
benediction is righteousness and humility.
The Beatitudes are a series of lessons and blessings delivered by Jesus in Matthew's Sermon on
the Mount. The Beatitudes contain statements that define the Christian faith's basis. The
Beatitudes are meant to motivate Christians to emulate the characteristics that Jesus mentions.
Some of these deeds are small, while others are large, but they all contribute to the ideal
Christian lifestyle. As a result, a Christian's ability to live out the Beatitudes' examples is critical.
The fundamental objective of the Beatitudes appears to be to console the oppressed in various
ways. However, in doing so, Jesus establishes a severe standard of judgment and provides strict
advice for people who find themselves in a position of power.
The message in this injunction is that the days of abusive privilege are numbered. Jesus' threat is
not only ethereal, entwined in the afterlife and a world to come, which the nonbeliever might
dismiss in favor of worldly pleasures. It is a threat based on the changes that are occurring in the
globe. It's a menace that can't be overlooked right now.
We should seek contentment in the Lord, according to the Beatitudes. We need to develop a
pleasure theology. The desire of pleasure is something that everyone shares. It is the driving
force behind a lot of what we do. However, the route to ultimate happiness is not as
straightforward as most people believe. The Eight Beatitudes are a collection of our Lord's
precepts or commandments for happiness. The term makarios, which is translated as "blessed" in
our English New Testament and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, means "blessed" in
Greek. The word "happy" is derived from the Greek language, thus the second rule or law of
happiness is to soothe mourners.
Things that make me happy is dancing because it is one of the things that may make me joyful
since it is a gift from God. Having this gift makes me joyful and allows me to take greater
pleasure in my life. Biking may also make me happy since it brings back memories and allows
me to meet new people; therefore, it makes me happy. Having a robust and healthy family is one
of my greatest joys, and it is God's greatest gift to us.
