playmates’ teacher. I would often let them
sit on a bamboo chair and ask them about
the parts of speech, talk to them about the
different parts of a gumamela flower, or
almost all the things I have learned in
school. I also have kept a record of their
scores during our so-called classes, and
grades on their projects on one of my
recycled notebooks from the previous school
year. Never did I know that these are the
starting steps to my teaching journey.
Tikang is Kinaray-a word that means
step. In a journey, a series of steps is
imperative in reaching one’s destination.
Every step that I have taken and will be
going to take is critical and crucial for my
self-improvement. Naturally, like any other
person, I am always overwhelmed by life per
se, with all the things I must do to reach a
purposeful beginning to another journey.
Thankfully, life has taught me to challenge
myself to take another step after making
one.
