‘COVID-19 LOCKDOWN’ presented both challenges and opportunities

for students.
Novel Corona Virus Disease 2019, also known as Covid-19, is a global pandemic currently going
on. There have been 2.5 million cases worldwide and increasing hourly, out of which 17 lakh
people have lost their lives. To prevent this pandemic from worsening, lockdown is
implemented overall in India. This lockdown has brought many challenges, especially for
students, as well as opportunities.
There are plenty of challenges this lockdown has brought with itself. The global crisis which we
all are going through has taken a toll on everyone. It has created anxiety among students
especially, which leads to mental pressure and stress, eventually making us turn our back to
studies and worry about the potential dilemma of our future lives. It is not only affecting our
mental health but also our physical health as we are now unable to do physical activity, and
play games and sports. Lack of physical activity is making us lethargic, prompting us to stay on
the bed the whole day with our eyes glued on the screen of TVs or smartphones. From scrolling
through Instagram to completing one season of a web series in a night, students are becoming
prone to internet addiction.
This lockdown is not only affecting our day-to-day life but also inflicting the future of this
generation, especially the final year students. The final year students of undergraduate and
postgraduate courses will now get late admissions for their respective degrees, which will cause
a hike in unemployment rates. The students who want to go abroad would now have wait one
more year to pursue their dream and make it real.
Education of every single student has been hampered due to this lockdown as not everyone can
take advantage of currently going on online classes. Online classes may be a way to cope with
this situation but is not a reliable and effective solution, owing to the fact that not each student
can afford smartphones or laptops and those who live in remote areas or in Kashmir have poor
internet connectivity. For many students, its an elusive approach to attend the online classes
and get benefits of the internet.
In spite of the challenges we have to face, this lockdown has brought some propitious
opportunities for many students. The students who are preparing for competitive exams such
as JEE or NEET, they are provided with extra time for studies or revision, albeit they are unable
to go coaching or libraries now. They can utilize this time to go through even the topics they
never touched upon and thorough revision.
In the busy and hectic schedule of our life, this is the perfect time for building the relationship
with our family. From dining together in the same room to pranking our siblings like old times.
Now I can make more memories with my family to relive them in future. This is the time to look
within ourselves and explore every nerve of our body to find a unique ability. To develop a
habit or a hobby; brush off the artistic skills, write a story, a novel or a song. To pass the leisure
time, do something productive, in lieu of lying on the bed like a sloth, whole day and night.
Clean up your room and arrange your closet, polish your shoes, learn a new language, dust off
copies books, read the books you’ve not touched upon in a while or abandoned it too long ago,
instead of procrastinating more.
If anything, this pandemic has taught us to maintain personal hygiene and clean surroundings.
Due to the lockdown, mother earth is healing which shows, we, humans, need to have a reality
check and start respecting our environment and to restraint from exploiting our natural
resources. Especially this generation needs to adopt eco-friendly methods to protect Mother
Nature, so that the coming generation will learn from the best.
