COVID in Children - Advisory

Most children have Mild symptoms of low to moderate grade fever (< 102℉) and leg pain.
Diarrhoea and vomiting may occur. If there is No lethargy, breathlessness and she is playful
and eating there is no reason to admit.
Do not worry about the type of variant.
No specific treatment is usually required. (See below)
Wear mask, sanitize and distance from each other to prevent further spread in the family
Self-isolation:
It is an effective precautionary measure to protect people around you – your family, friends,
visitors – from contracting COVID-19.
We know it’s a stressful time, but taking these measures will help protect you, your family
and others as well.

Monitor your Health:


• Take your temperature with a thermometer two times a day and monitor for fever
• Watch for cough or trouble breathing
• Wear a mask if you develop a fever or cough or if distancing is not possible
• Report if you are unwell in any way
• Stay home and avoid contact with others
• If you have elders (> 60 years) or persons with illnesses, avoid contact with them for 14
days
• Keep your distance from others (ideally about 6 feet)
 Regular diet
 Pulse oximetry is not recommended as there may be many false low readings

Watch for symptoms


• Fever (higher than 100.4 and persistent)
• Cough
• Shortness of breath
• Rashes and red eyes
• Lethargy or sick look
 Seizures (fits) excessive sleepiness
• More than 6 watery stools a day
• Dry cough, Mild to moderate fever and runny nose are not serious symptoms

Treatment:
• Fever: Treat as usual with paracetamol (crocin / calpol / fevago).
• Cough Cold: Treat only if symptoms are severe with usual with cough cold medicines
• Antibiotics: Are usually not needed

• Give: Vitamin C – celin 500 mg for adult 1/2 tab for children x 7 days once a day

Note:
Some children develop symptoms, 7-14 days after recovering from COVID-19
Get your child checked if there is fever, rash, red eyes or mouth, diarrhoea and vomiting,
