BELIEFS IN TEACHING AND LEARNING (PRE)

I believe learning is a necessary, continuous, and life-long process. Learners must also

be able to express their passion to learn and view all interactions as opportunities to teach and

learn. I also believe that learning is a process of making sense of the world, so we should be

concerned with concept development and recognize that concepts are built and subject to

question or modification. Because each learner is unique and responsible for their own learning,

we must identify and adapt to individual differences and learning styles. As a future teacher, we

also must show compassion and empathy for each learner, as well as incorporating and

enhancing the participation of students with different skills and backgrounds. Learning as well

requires the ability to relate previous experiences, understandings, or patterns of experience

with new experiences, information, and settings. To do so, we must look for ways to draw on

learners' diverse personal, social, and cultural experience, knowledge, and abilities when

engaging in new learning. Learning is improved when students are aware of how they think and

learn which gives them more control over their learning. That’s why we must clearly teach

thinking and learning techniques as well as model meta-cognition.
