NATURE OF DIFFERENT

SPORTS

It is a part of human civilization, became a form of entertainment, as well as an avenue


to practice and show physical power and skills.

BENEFITS

1. Learning how to set goals, as well as collaborating with others in order to attain
goals.
2. The advantage of sports is learning to follow respect rules.
3. The value of persistence and perseverance is also developed in practice, motivated
with the desire to win is encouraged, dealing with loss and failure is also learned.
4. The values learned in sports or games are also lessons students can apply in life.
Sports and games are laboratories of life.

THE NATURE RULES OF SPORTS

Sports by nature is made up of rules;

1. Rules are put up in sport to secure safety.


2. Rules are set up for a sport or games to be playable.
3. Rules exist so that the sport is remarkable.
ATHLETICS - is composed of sports involving walking, running, jumping and throwing.

INDIVIDUAL SPORTS - are athletic or physical activities where participants compete as


individuals.

TRACK EVENTS

1. SPRINT - sprinters use crouch start and starting blocks to help them get to a full
and rapid running motion. Sprints, also called DASHES, are short races with one
lap. 100, 200 and 400 meters dashes.
2. MIDDLE DISTANCE RACES - these are the 800, 1000 and 1500 meters and one
mile runs.
3. LONG DISTANCE RACES - these include all distances greater than a mile such as
3000, 5000, and 10000 meters marathon, and 3000 meters steeplechase.
4. RELAY RACES - these races are performed by teams of four members each. They
run individually one after another, holding a baton that is passed from the first up
to the fourth paper.
5. HURDLES - hurdling races are foot races in which runners must jump over 10
barriers. Height of hurdles: For men: 110m, 400m ; For women: 100m, 400m

THE START

a. Even start with a crouch

FIELD EVENTS

Two categories of field events:


1. Throwing Events
2. Jumping Events

JUMPING

1. HIGH JUMP - the athlete jumps over the horizontal crossbar suspended between
two upright poles.
2. POLE VAULT - the vaulter, carrying a flexible 15 to 17 foot pole weighing 10 to 12
pounds thrust the pole into a wooden or metal slot set beneath the crossbar.
3. LONG JUMP - this formerly known as broad jump. The athlete sprints down a
runaway at top speed and jumps from a wooden take-off board, 20cm angle from
the board, to the nearest point of contact in the sand.
4. TRIPLE JUMP - this formerly known as hop, step and jump event. An athlete leaps
from the take-off board with one foot, lands on the same foot, takes a long step
with the other foot and finishes as in long jump.

THROWING

1. DISCUS THROW - the discus is made of wooden encircled by metal rim and
inserted with metal plate in the center.
2. JAVELIN THROW - the javelin is a light hollow circular metal shaft tapered at
both ends with sharp metal points.
