O Adam lived less than 25k years ago First and foremost, we need to establish the actual age of Homo Sapiens. The scientists later excavated more human fossils from the site, including a partial skull and a lower jaw, as well as stone tools found alongside the bones. A technique called thermoluminescence dating aged the tools at around 350,000-280,000 years old. Meanwhile, fresh examination of a previously discovered fossil tooth shifted its estimated age from around 160,000 to around 318,000-254,000 years old, putting it in the same timeframe as the tools. Source:- https://www.nature.com/ articles/nature.2017.22114 Now, what is the age of mankind in Islam or rather when was Adam sent down to earth? In islamic theology, the early humans were very different from today. For an example Noah and Adam are said to have lived around 1,000 years. It is also said that Adam was around 40 metres tall. And We certainly sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them a thousand years minus fifty years Quran 29:14 Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Allah created Adam, making him 60 cubits tall. ... People have been decreasing in stature since Adam's creation. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 55, Number 543) The time between Adam and Noah: The period between Adam and Nooh (peace be upon them both): it was narrated from Abu Umaamah that a man said: “O Messenger of Allaah, was Adam a Prophet?” He said, “Yes, and Allaah spoke to him.” The man asked, “How much (time) was there between him and Nooh?” He said, “Ten centuries.” Narrated by Ibn Hibbaan in his Saheeh, 14/69; and by al- Haakim, 2/262. He said it is saheeh according to the conditions of Muslim, and al-Dhahabi agreed with him. Ibn Katheer said in al-Bidaayah wa’'l- Nihaayah (1/94): this is (saheeh) according to the conditions of Muslim, even though he did not narrate it. This indicates that during the centuries between Adam and Nuh, humans were following Islam, as Ibn ‘Abbas said: "Between Adam and Nuh there were ten generations, during all of which humans were following Islam. Source:— http://m.qtafsir.com/Surah-Al- Isra/A-Threat-to—Quraysh There are differences of opinion among scholars of what the arabic word for "century", qarn, exactly means. Some say it means a generation, others say it means a century. Today, we are going to be very nice and pretend it means a generation. Not only that, but we are going to say that up to the time of Abraham, every human lived for 1000 years, just like Noah and Adam, and had a child on the day they died. So each generation is about 1000 years. So, now we have 10,000 years between Adam and Noah. Let's keep going. The time between Noah and Abraham: The period between Nooh and Ibraaheem (peace be upon them both): our evidence is in the continuation of the hadeeth of Abu Umaamah (may Allaah be pleased with him) quoted above: ... He said, “And how long was there between Nooh and Ibraaheem?” He said, “Ten centuries.” (Narrated by al-Haakim in al-Mustadrak, 2/288. He said: this hadeeth is saheeh according to the conditions of Muslim, although he did not narrate it. And it was narrated by al-Tabaraani in al-Mu'jam al- Kabeer, 8/118. It was reported that some of the narrators of this hadeeth were da’eef (weak), but al- Albaani classed it as saheeh on the basis of corroborating reports. Source:- https://islamqa.info/en/ answers/20907/how—many-years—were- there-between-adam-and-muhammad- peace—be-upon-them-both We have another 10,000 years between Noah and Abraham which brings us 20,000 years. At this point, it gets troublesome. There are 20,000 years between Adam and Abraham. The oldest fossil of homo sapiens we have found is around 300,000 years old. To make up that time difference, Abraham must have lived around 280,000 BC. But Abraham is supposed to have lived around 2,000 BC according to various other non-islamic sources. There is absolutely no way he lived any later than that, let alone ~300,000 years. In fact, there are narrations that support the idea that Adam first appeared less than 30,000 years ago, in context of islamic mythology of course. We have sources telling us that early humans in Islam were quite advanced in technology which completely contradicts early human history. Noah now proceeded to build the boat, because he feared his people. He began to cut wood and forge iron and prepared the materials for the boat, such as pitch and other material which only he knew to prepare well. While he was engaged in this work, his people who passed by made fun of him and scoffed at him. [History of Al- Tabari P. 359] According to islamic sources, Noah, one of the first humans on this planet, knew how to forge iron. The art of the forging techniques dates to at least 4000 BC and earlier. He also knew how to build boats. Others also knew what boats were since they made fun of him for building one on land. The earliest historical evidence of boats is found in Egypt during the 4th millennium BCE. Furthermore, Adam knew agriculture. Adam and afflicted him (for failing the test), how Adam was disobedient to his Lord after God had given him honor and high rank with Him and enabled him to enjoy wholesome plenty in God's Paradise, and how he lost all of that and went from the luxury and pleasurable and plentiful way of life in Paradise to the miserable way of life of the inhabitants of the earth: tilling, hoeing, and planting the soil. [History of Al-Tabari P. 275] The conclusion is that the misery which God informed Adam would result from being obedient to his enemy Iblis is the difficulty for him to obtain what would remove his hunger and his nakedness . It refers to the means by which his children obtain food, such as plowing, sowing, cultivating, irrigating and other such difficult and painful tasks. [History of Al- Tabari P. 300] Adam was cast down from Paradise, where both of them had freely eaten of its plenty, to where there was no longer plentiful food and drink. He was taught how to work iron, and he was commanded to plow. So he plowed, sowed,, and irrigated, and when (the crop) ripened, he harvested, thrashed, winnowed, ground, kneaded, baked bread, and ate. Adam did not learn about(all these matters) until all that God wanted to ripen did. [History of Al-Tabari P. 299] Allah taught Adam the ways of earning livelihood, especially farming, so that they will obtain their daily needs. Source:- htips://questionsonislam.com/ article/prophet-adam-—peace-be-upon- him This isn't the end of it. According to al—Harith-Ibn Sa'd—Hisham b. Muhammad-his father—Abu Salih Ibn ‘Abbas: ... Then, when God saw the nakedness of Adam and Eve, He commanded Adam to slaughter a ram from the eight couples of small cattle He had sent down from Paradise. Adam took the ram and slaughtered it. Then he took its wool, and Eve spun it . He and Eve wove it. Adam made a coat for himself, and a shift and veil for Eve. They put on that clothing... [History of Al-Tabari P. 294] Allah also sent some tools for him. According to Ibn Humayd-Yahya b. Wadili-al-Husayn’ -'Ilba' b. Ahmare-'Ikrimah-Ibn ‘Abbas: Three things came down together with Adam: Anvils, tongs, mallets and hammers. Then, as has been mentioned, God had Adam descend to the foot of the mountain upon which He had cast him, and made him ruler of all the earth and of all the jinn, dumb animals, beasts of burden, wild animals, birds and other (beings) upon it. He also built the Kaaba so he knew how to construct buildings too. How can all this be? So much for the hunter-gatherer culture and living in caves. Early humans also presumably knew how to read and write since they had their own scriptures. Source: Sahih Bukhari 5873 yea.... the scientific error here is glaringly obvious, besides, the tradition says that human height actually decreased over time, | don't see any 27-29 metre(60 cubit) tall skeletons or anything even remotely much higher than our current height. We will likely never be this tall We can thank evolution for this, says Terence D. Capellini, a human evolutionary biologist at Harvard University. “Height is not just about height,” Capellini says. “It’s about the overall biological growth of an organism, at least in humans.” Researchers surmise that how tall we become isn't an isolated piece of our extremely intricate genome. Rather, it’s intertwined with other growth processes, like organ development. Over millions of years, natural selection has forged the blueprint for the human genome and therefore influenced body and organ growth through linked genes and subsequent tissue growth. Our height, then, is simply a byproduct. Besides genetics, environmental factors like proper nutrition and modern healthcare can impact height. Still, genes take on the lion’s share of the work, accounting for 70 to 80 percent of the result. Height generally evens out around puberty and that’s when those evolutionary mechanisms step in. When we reach our predetermined heights, a biological mechanism called programmed senescence eventually turns off the genes responsible for growth. Most people grow taller until puberty ends, their bones continuously lengthening. This process occurs at the growth plates, two layers of cartilage located in children’s vertebrae and long bones, such as the femur and tibia. It leads to many increased health risks apart from being absolutely detrimental to your survival due to the internal spacing you could say Source:- htips://academic.oup.com/edrv/ article/40/1/268/5088037?login=false O Paedophilia, Slavery, Sexual Slavery are all moral as per Islam According to Islamic traditions, a prophet can never do any major sin, yet Muhammad did all of these, therefore these cannot be a major sin unless you aim to void this doctrine. Having overcome them and taken them captives, the Companions of Allah's Messenger seemed to refrain from having intercourse with captive women because of their husbands being polytheists. Then Allah, Most High, sent down regarding that:" And women already married, except those whom your right hands possess (Quran 4:. 24)" (i. e. they were lawful for them when their 'Idda period came to an end). Sahih Muslim 8:3432 Jabir (Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man came to Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and said: | have a slave-girl who is our servant and she carries water for us and | have intercourse with her, but | do not want her to conceive. Because the rituals involved with the Islamic Pilgrimage are either identical or very close to the pre-Islamic pagan idol worship at Mecca. -Is Allah The Same God As The God Of The Bible?, M. J. Afshari, p 6, 8-9 e "We used to consider (i.e. going around) them a [pagan] custom of the Pre-islamic period of Ignorance, so when Islam came, we gave up going around them. Then Allah revealed" "Verily, Safa and Marwa (i.e. two mountains at Mecca) are among the Symbols of Allah. So it is not harmful of those who perform the Hajj of the House (of Allah) or perform the Umra to ambulate (Tawaf) between them." (2.158) (Hadith, al-Bukhari Volume 6, Book 60, Number 22-23) Safa and Marwa are two mounts, located at Mecca. This ritual entails Muslims walking frantically between the two mounts, seven times. According to a hadith in Bukhari, this was originally a pagan pre-Islamic practice. Muhammad retained it for Islam Pagans prior to Islam would pray five times per day towards Mecca. Muhammad retained for Islam, this pre-Islamic practice, sanctioning it with a story of a night trip to heaven on a mythical beast called al-Buraq. In heaven, the Hadith tells us that Allah demanded 50 prayers per day per Muslim. Upon advice from Moses, Muhammed bargains with Allah and successfully reduces it to five prayers per day. Ihram is a state a Muslim enters into for his pilgrimage to Mecca. It involves a series of procedures like ritual washing, wearing ‘Ihram garments’, etc. Ihram was according to Sahih Bukhari originally a pagan requirement for worshiping idols during pre-Islamic times. Muhammad retained this practice for Islam. Muslims assume lhram to perform the Hajj or Umrah. Narrated 'Urwa: | asked ‘Aisha: ...But in fact, this divine inspiration was revealed concerning the Ansar who used to assume “Ihram” for worshipping an idol called “Manat” which they used to worship at a place called Al-Mushallal before they embraced Islam, and whoever assumed lhram (for the idol), would consider it not right to perform Tawaf between Safa and Marwa. Sahih Bukhari 2:26:706 A principal sacred object in Arabian religion was the stone, either a rock outcropping or a large boulder, often a rectangular or irregular black basaltic stone... of numerous baetyls, the best known is the Black-stone of the Ka’aba at Mecca which became the central shrine object in Islam -Encyclopedia Britannica - Arabian Religions, p1059, 1979 The Black Stone seems to have been one among many stones and idols venerated at the Ka’aba by the pre-Islamic pagans of Arabia. The Black Stone was kissed during pre-Islamic pagan worship. Though Muhammad is asserted to have thrown out 360 other objects at the Ka’aba, he retained this Black Stone and continued the practice of kissing it. It is this same stone that the pre-Islamic pagans once kissed, that Muslims kiss today when visiting Mecca O Treatment of Non Muslims under an Ideal Islamic State A pact originally believed to have been authorised by Umar enjoys a canonical status in Islam, endorsed by scholars like Ibn Taymiyyah (called the Sheikh-al- Islam), Abu Yusuf and Ibn Kathir "In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. This is a document to the servant of Allah ‘Umar, the Leader of the faithful, from the Christians of such and such city. When you (Muslims) came to us we requested safety for ourselves, children, property and followers of our religion. We made a condition on ourselves that: e We will neither erect in our areas a monastery, church, or a sanctuary for a monk, e Nor restore any place of worship that needs restoration Nor use any of them for the purpose of enmity against Muslims. We will not prevent any Muslim from resting in our churches whether they come by day or night, and we will open the doors [of our houses of worship] for the wayfarer and passerby. Those Muslims who come as guests, will enjoy boarding and food for three days. We will not allow a spy against Muslims into our churches and homes or hide deceit [or betrayal] against Muslims. We will not teach our children the Qur'an, Publicize practices of Shirk (polytheism), Invite anyone to Shirk or prevent any of our fellows from embracing Islam, if they choose to do So. We will respect Muslims, Move from the places we sit in if they choose to sit in them. We will not imitate their clothing, caps, turbans, sandals, hairstyles, speech, nicknames and title names, or ride on saddles, Hang swords on the shoulders, collect weapons of any kind or carry these weapons. We will not encrypt our stamps in Arabic, or sell liquor. We will have the front of our hair cut, Wear our customary clothes wherever we are, Wear belts around our waist, Refrain from erecting crosses on the outside of our churches and demonstrating them and our books in public in Muslim fairways and markets. We will not sound the bells in our churches, except discretely, or raise our voices while reciting our holy books inside our churches in the presence of Muslims, Nor raise our voices [with prayer] at our funerals, or light torches in funeral processions in the fairways of Muslims, or their markets. We will not bury our dead next to Muslim dead, e or buy servants who were captured by Muslims. e Wewill be guides for Muslims and refrain from breaching their privacy in their homes: e We will not beat any Muslim. These are the conditions that we set against ourselves and followers of our religion in return for safety and protection. If we break any of these promises that we set for your benefit against ourselves, then our Dhimmah (promise of protection) is broken and you are allowed to do with us what you are allowed of people of defiance and rebellion: The Pact of Umar" This is what non muslims are to be treated like according to these scholars as well O Blood Money Islamic law treats homicide and unintentional homicide (not just bodily injury and property damage), as a civil dispute between believers, rather than corrective punishment by the state to maintain order. The offender must either face equal retaliation known as Qisas ("Life for life, eye for eye, nose for nose, ear for ear, tooth for tooth, and wounds equal for equal.’ Quran 5:45), pay diyat to the victim or heirs of the victim, or be forgiven by the victim or victim's heir(s). The value of diyat, under all schools of sharia, varied with the victim's religion and legal status (free or slave). i.e The muslim and the non muslim has an unequal status in court proceedings and the amount of money that was to be paid for a muslim and a non muslim victim According to most Islamic schools of jurisprudence the Muslim can't be killed in retaliation for killing a non muslim and only has to pay the blood money(which differs according to the Madhab) According to classical jurists of three of the four Sunni Islamic schools of jurisprudence - Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali schools — qisas(killing in retaliation) is available only when the victim is Muslim; while the Hanafi school holds it may apply in some circumstances when a Muslim has done harm to a non- Muslim(so the Hanafi school of Hanifa only accepts some cases in which the Muslim may be executed) And the Diya(blood money) has to be paid only if he was a person who paid jizya (and was qualified to pay jizya) and hence under protection of the islamic state Numerous Hanafi, Shafi'i and Maliki jurists stated that a Muslim and a non-Muslim are neither equal nor of same status under sharia, and thus the judicial process and punishment applicable must vary. "Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As: The Prophet said: A believer will not be killed for an infidel. If anyone kills a man deliberately, he is to be handed over to the relatives of the one who has been killed. The husband has the right to discipline his wife if she disobeys him in something good, not if she disobeys him in something sinful, because Allaah has enjoined disciplining women by forsaking them in bed and by hitting them, when they do not obey. The Hanafis mentioned four situations in which a husband is permitted to discipline his wife by hitting her. These are: not adorning herself when he wants her to; not responding when he calls her to bed and she is taahirah (pure, i.e., not menstruating); not praying; and going out of the house without his permission.’ -Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid, Islam Q&A, Fatwa No. 10680 https://islamqa.com/en/answers/10680/ what-are-the-rights—of—the-husband- and-what-are-the-rights—of-the-wife O “Allah's” general ignorance of Jews, Christians,Judaism & Christianity "The Jews say, “Ezra is the son of Allah,’ while the Christians say, “The Messiah is the son of Allah.” Such are their baseless assertions, only parroting the words of earlier disbelievers. May Allah condemn them! How can they be deluded “from the truth’?" -Quran 9:30 The verse is correct in stating that Christians believe Jesus to be the son of God(Allah in Arabic means 'The God’) But the issue is in saying that Jews believe Ezra is the son of God, historically speaking there is no evidence of any Jewish sect that ever considered Ezra to be the literal son of God(like Christians do with Jesus) and worshipped him. In Judaism the term "son of God" is used in the Hebrew Bible as another way to refer to humans who have a special relationship with God. In Exodus, the nation of Israel is called God's firstborn son. Solomon is also called "son of God". Angels, just and pious men, and the kings of Israel are all called "sons of God." Now it seems that ‘Allah' was misinformed on the Jewish usage of the term and thought that it meant the same as the Christian usage of the term. Though there exists no historical evidence of a Jewish sect considering Ezra to be the son of God and/or worshipping him, if one still argues that it was "just a specific set of Jews" why does Allah not call out only those Jews, the text makes it seem that he's referring to all Jews And with the Quran being supposedly the perfect book such chances of misinterpretation could have been easily avoided, had it been the perfect book ofcourse. In Arabic both Mary the mother of Jesus and Mary the sister of Aaron and Moses are called by the same name, @3)4 (Maryam). Skeptical Jewish and Christian scholars believed that Muhammad had mistaken Jesus' mother for Moses' sister. "Mughira b. Shu'ba reported: When | came to Najran, they (the Christians of Najran) asked me: You read "O sister of Harun" (i. e. Hadrat Maryam) in the Qur'an, whereas Moses was born much before Jesus. When | came back to Allah's Messenger (#8) |asked him about that, whereupon he said: The (people of the old age) used to give names (to their persons) after the names of Apostles and pious persons who had gone before them." -Sahih Muslim 28:13 While they shared a name, according to the Bible these two women lived more than a thousand years apart. Mary the mother of Jesus is called the sister of Aaron in sura 19, even though Mary the mother of Jesus and Mary the sister of Aaron and Moses were different women who lived a thousand years apart. "Then she brought him to her own folk, carrying him. They said: O Mary! Thou hast come with an amazing thing. (19:28) O sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a wicked man nor was thy mother a harlot. Then she pointed to him. They said: How can we talk to one who is in the cradle, a young boy? He spake: Lo! | am the slave of Allah. He hath given me the Scripture and hath appointed me a Prophet, And hath made me blessed wheresoever | may be, and hath enjoined upon me prayer and almsgiving so long as | remain alive, And (hath made me) dutiful toward her who bore me, and hath not made me arrogant, unblest. Peace on me the day | was born, and the day | die, and the day | shall be raised alive! Such was Jesus, son of Mary: (this is) a statement of the truth concerning which they doubt.” -Quran 19:27-34 O Father of Moses and Mary In Hebrew he(Father of Moses) is called Amram (07) with the letter mem (D) at the end. In the Arabic Bible he is also called Amram (elys¢), with the letter meem (e) at the end: The children of Amram: Aaron, Moses and Miriam." -1 Chronicles 6:3 in Arabic Bible In Islamic sources he is called Imran (ole) Miriam was the daughter of Amram and a sister of Aaron and Moses. The Qur'an describes Mary, the mother of Jesus, as being a daughter of Amram and a sister of Aaron - in the same family relationship as Miriam. Many people, including Aisha, understood Mary and Miriam to be the same person, based on their understanding of the Qur'anic text. The Qur'an says the wife of Imran gave birth to the virgin Mary who gave birth to Jesus. Which is not possible since Imran and Mary lived about a 1000 years apart from each other showing that ‘Allah’ misunderstood Mary(also called Miriam) who was the daughter of Imran and the sister of Aaron and Moses to be the same Mary who is the mother of Jesus. "(Remember) when the wife of ‘Imran said: My Lord! | have vowed unto Thee that which is in my belly as a consecrated (offering). Accept it from me. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Hearer, the Knower! And when she was delivered she said: My Lord! Lo! | am delivered of a female — Allah knew best of what she was delivered - the male is not as the female; and lo! I have named her Mary, and lo! | crave Thy protection for her and for her offspring from Satan the outcast. And her Lord accepted her with full acceptance and vouchsafed to her a goodly growth; and made Zachariah her guardian. Whenever Zachariah went into the sanctuary where she was, he found that she had food. He said: O Mary! Whence cometh unto thee this (food)? She answered: It is from Allah. Allah giveth without stint to whom He will. Then Zachariah prayed unto his Lord and said: My Lord! Bestow upon me of Thy bounty goodly offspring. Lo! Thou art the Hearer of Prayer. And the angels called to him as he stood praying in the sanctuary: Allah giveth thee glad tidings of (a son whose name is) John, (who cometh) to confirm a word from Allah lordly, chaste, a prophet of the righteous. He said: My Lord! How can | have a son when age hath overtaken me already and my wife is barren? (The angel) answered: So (it will be). Allah doeth what He will. He said: My Lord! Appoint a token for me. (The angel) said: The token unto thee (shall be) that thou shalt not speak unto mankind three days except by signs. Remember thy Lord much, and praise (Him) in the early hours of night and morning. And when the angels said: O Mary! Lo! Allah hath chosen thee and made thee pure, and hath preferred thee above (all) the women of creation. O Mary! Be obedient to thy Lord, prostrate thyself and bow with those who bow (in worship). This is of the tidings of things hidden. We reveal it unto thee (Muhammad). Thou wast not present with them when they threw their pens (to know) which of them should be the guardian of Mary, nor wast thou present with them when they quarrelled (thereupon). (And remember) when the angels said: O Mary! Lo! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a word from him, whose name is the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, illustrious in the world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near (unto Allah). He will speak unto mankind in his cradle and in his manhood, and he is of the righteous. She said: My Lord! How can | have a child when no mortal hath touched me? He said: So (it will be). Allah createth what He will. If He decreeth a thing, He saith unto it only: Be! and it is." -Quran 3:35-45 When Christians criticized the verse which calls Mary "sister of Aaron" in the Quran, Muhammad's response was that "people were named after pious persons who lived before them". Islamic scholars concluded that Mary was either called "sister of Aaron" because she was his descendant or she had a brother coincidentally called Aaron. Both these solutions seem to be inventions, because Mary was not known to be a descendant of Aaron and she was not known to have a brother called "Aaron". On the other hand, Miriam was well-known to be a sister of Aaron. O Muslim explanations for this blunder(and their refutation) Ibn Kathir gave the following explanation in his tafsir: "(O sister of Harun/Aaron!) referring to the brother of Musa, because she was of his descendants. This is similar to the saying, *‘O brother of Tamim; to one who is from the Tamimi tribe, and ‘O brother of Mudar; to one who is from the Mudari tribe. It has also been said that she was related to a righteous man among them whose name was Harun and she was comparable to him in her abstinence and worship." That he mentioned two alternative explanations suggests he was unsure regarding the certainty of either of them. And as previously mentioned Mary was not known to be a descendant of Aaron and she was not known to have a brother called "Aaron". On the other hand, Miriam was well-known to be a sister of Aaron. "Sister of Aaron means a descendant of Aaron" This is an explanation given by Muslims, The Qur'an says "sister (<+/) of Aaron" and people understood the verse to literally mean "sister of Aaron". Only after this relation was criticized as an error did it become instead understood as a metaphor meaning "a descendant of Aaron". Christian sources consistently stated that Mary was from the family of David, so many wondered why the Qur'an would describe her as instead being from the family of Aaron. Some point out that in Luke 1:5, Elizabeth is said to be a descendant of Aaron; and in Luke 1:36, Elizabeth is said to be a cousin or relative of Mary. But being related to another person does not guarantee that one also descends from any particular one of that person's distant ancestors (Aaron in this case). The additional description of her as the "daughter of Amram (Imran)" in Surahs 3 and 66 appears to make the matter even foggier and more clearly problematic. Since Imran lived about a 1000 years before her, it does indeed show that the Quran confuses Mary/Miriam the daughter of Imran, sister of Moses and Aaron and Mary the mother of Jesus. O Preservation of the Quran The perfect preservation of the Quran is an article of faith for most schools and sects of Islam and figures highly in the beliefs of Muslims around the divine nature of their religion. Orthodox Islamic scholars argue that the Qur'an today is identical to that received by Prophet Muhammad. "Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian" -Quran 15:9 i.e. Allah himself will preserve the Quran This contention however is challenged both by parts of the Islamic tradition itself and the findings of modern scholarship. Unfortunately, at no time during Muhammad's life did he ever order the Quran to be compiled into a single book. A detailed hadith records that many Qurra' (“reciters”) had died before the Quran had been compiled in written form, so Abu Bakr asked Zaid bin Thabit to collect it into a book. Zaid was reluctant, for Muhammad had never ordered such an action to be taken. He stated, "I started looking for the Qur'an and collecting it from (what was written on) palm-leaf stalks, thin white stones, and also from the men who knew it by heart, till | found the last [two] verse[s] of Surat at-Tauba (repentance) with Abi Khuzaima al-Ansari, and | did not find it with anybody other than him. Then the complete manuscripts (copy) of the Qur'an remained with Abu Bakr till he died, then with ‘Umar till the end of his life, and then with Hafsa, the daughter of ‘Umar." Source- Sahih Bukhari 6:61:509 Sahih Bukhari contains contradictory material around the collection and preservation of the text of the Qur'an: "Narrated Qatada: | asked Anas bin Malik: Who collected the Qur'an at the time of the Prophet? He replied, Four, all of whom were from the Ansar, Ubai bin Ka'b, Muadh bin Jabal, Zaid bin Thabit and Abu Zaid.” -Sahih Bukhari 6:61:525 Narrated Anas bin Malik: "When the Prophet died, none had collected the Qur'an but four persons: Abu Ad Darda, Mu'adh bin Jabal, Zaid bin Thabit and Abu Zaid. We were the inheritor (of Abu Zaid) as he had no offspring.” -Sahih Bukhari 6:61:526 As you can see the names don't line up While even today there are many memorizers (huffaz) of the complete Qur'an, the earliest Muslims did not have the benefit of choosing a standard qira’at (reading) and standard written Qur'an complete with diacritics in book form to help them or their teachers in the learning process. The Qur'an itself records that Muhammad himself had forgotten portions of the Qur'an Hadith also exist to the point that Muhammad himself forgot parts of the Qur'an and needed his followers to remind him: "Narrated Aisha: The Prophet heard a man reciting the Qur'an in the mosque and said, "May Allah bestow His Mercy on him, as he has reminded me of such-and-such Verses of such a Surah." -Sahih Bukhari 6:61:556 "Aisha reported that the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) heard a person reciting the Qur'an at night. Upon this he said: May Allah show mercy to him; he has reminded me of such and such a verse which | had missed in such and such a surah." -Sahih Muslim 4:1720 In the below hadith it seems Muhammad's companions also forgot passages of the Qur'an "Narrated Abdullah: The Prophet said, "Why does anyone of the people say, '! have forgotten such-and-such Verses (of the Qur'an)?' He, in fact, is caused (by Allah) to forget." -Sahih Bukhari 6:61:559 "Ibn Mas'ud reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Wretched is the man who says: | forgot such and such a sura, or | forget such and such a verse, but he has been made to forget." -Sahih Muslim 4:1726 This is the standard cop out, that Allah forced them to forget but is that not dishonesty, what need does an all knowing God have to make some verses be forgotten, is his message time bound, has he changed his mind on those verses despite being all knowing O Lost Verses and Surahs from the Qur'an (A sub section of the Quran's preservation) There are claims in the hadith that certain verses are missing. For example the ‘stoning verse’ for adultery. The present day Qur'an does not contain the penalty of Rajm (stoning) for married adulterers, which abrogated the previous penalty. Rather, the Qur'an now extant assigns whipping as the punishment for adulterer. “Abdullah b. ‘Abbas reported that ‘Umar b. Khattab sat on the pulpit of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and said: Verily Allah sent Muhammad (may peace be upon him) with truth and He sent down the Book upon him, and the verse of stoning was included in what was sent down to him. We recited it, retained it in our memory and understood it. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) awarded the punishment of stoning to death (to the married adulterer and adulteress) and, after him, we also awarded the punishment of stoning, | am afraid that with the lapse of time, the people (may forget it) and may say: We do not find the punishment of stoning in the Book of Allah, and thus go astray by abandoning this duty prescribed by Allah. Stoning is a duty laid down in Allah's Book for married men and women who commit adultery when proof is established, or it there is pregnancy, or a confession.’ -Sahih Muslim 17:4194 The lost verse of Rajm (stoning) was originally found in Surah al-Ahzab ' Umar said to me ‘How many verses are contained in the chapter of al-Ahzab?’ | said, ‘72 or 73 verses.’ He said it was almost as long as the chapter of the Cow, which contains 287 verses, and in it there was the verse of stoning." - Al-Muttagi ‘Ali bin Husam al-Din in his book “Mukhtasar Kanz al-’Ummal” printed on the margin of Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Volume 2, page 2, in his hadith about chapter 33 This verse, along with verses regarding adult suckling, were written on a piece of paper and were lost when a sheep or goat ate them. (Adult suckling in Islam— https:// wikiislam.net/wiki/Adult_Sucklin g) The loss of the stoning verse is confirmed by Caliph Umar in sahih hadith in which this verse is said to have been included in the book "sent down" to Muhammad, "the Book of Allah". Source- Sahih Muslim 17:4194 In another sahih hadith appearing in many collections, Muhammad says he will judge a married woman who committed adultery with an unmarried man by "the Book of Allah" (meaning the Qur'an) and orders the woman to be stoned and the man to receive 100 lashes. Source-Sahih Muslim 17:4209 Though the verse, has already been lost (The present day Qur’an does not contain the penalty of Rajm (stoning) for married adulterers, though the married wife as per Muhammad is to be stoned to death) The dubious defence of "Allah caused them to forget" can't be used here since Muhammad himself says that is the prescribed punishment even now. Of what use is it to abrogate the verse but still follow the ruling(concerning stoning) O Most of Surah Al-Azb was lost It seems that the verse on stoning was not the only one to disappear from surah al- Ahzab. With sahih isnads appearing in many hadith collections via ‘Aasim ibn Bahdalah, from Zirr, we have this hadith: "Narrated ‘Aasim ibn Bahdalah, from Zirr, who said: Ubayy ibn Ka‘b said to me: How long is Soorat al-Ahzaab when you read it? Or how many verses do you think it is? | said to him: Seventy-three verses. He said: Only? There was a time when it was as long as Soorat al—Bagqarah, and we read in it: “The old man and the old woman, if they commit zina, then stone them both, a punishment from Allah, and Allah is Almighty, Most Wise.” -Musnad Ahmad 21245 Islamqa.info, the popular fatwah website accepts the hadith and that the verses were lost on the authority of the scholars. lts isnad was graded by al- Tabari and al—Albani as sahih, even more emphatically by Ibn Hazm, “sahih, as clear as the sun” (juaulS avo osku!), and hasan (good) by Ibn Kathir and Ibn Hajar. Source- https://islamqa.info/en/answers/ 197942/soorat-al-ahzaab-was-—as-long- as-soorat-al-baqarah-then-most-of-it- was~abrogated Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, one of the early authorities on the Qur'an text and a companion of Muhammad, claimed a surah which resembled at-Tawba (also known as Bara‘at) in length and severity was forgotten and lost, but included a passage on the greed of man, which is not in today's Qur'an. Various narrations have slightly differing wording for this lost passage, which is consistent with it being insufficiently remembered. "Abu Harb b. Abu al-Aswad reported on the authority of his father that Abu Musa al-Ashiari sent for the reciters of Basra. They came to him and they were three hundred in number. They recited the Qur'an and he said: You are the best among the inhabitants of Basra, for you are the reciters among them. So continue to recite it. (But bear in mind) that your reciting for a long time may not harden your hearts as were hardened the hearts of those before you. We used to recite a surah which resembled in length and severity to (Surah) Bara‘at. | have, however, forgotten it with the exception of this which | remember out of it:" If there were two valleys full of riches, for the son of Adam, he would long for a third valley, and nothing would fill the stomach of the son of Adam but dust.’ And we used so recite a surah which resembled one of the surahs of Musabbihat, and | have forgotten it, but remember (this much) out of it:" Oh people who believe, why do you say that which you do not practise" (Ixi 2.) and" that is recorded in your necks as a witness (against you) and you would be asked about it on the Day of Resurrection" -Sahih Muslim 5:2286 Ubai said that it was considered as a saying from the Qur'an for a while during Muhammad's lifetime. At best, it could be claimed to be an example of a type of abrogation where the verses are lost. Why the verse would be abrogated is unexplained. "Narrated Sahl bin Sa‘d: | heard Ibn Az- Zubair who was on the pulpit at Mecca, delivering a sermon, saying, "0 men! The Prophet used to say, "If the son of Adam were given a valley full of gold, he would love to have a second one; and if he were given the second one, he would love to have a third, for nothing fills the belly of Adam's son except dust. And Allah forgives he who repents to Him." Ubai said, "We considered this as a saying from the Qur'an till the Sura (beginning with) 'The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you.: (102.1) was revealed.” -Sahih Bukhari 8:76:446 Ibn Abbas was likewise unsure whether it was part of the Qur'an or not: "Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: | heard Allah's Messenger (pbuh) saying, "If the son of Adam had money equal to a valley, then he will wish for another similar to it, for nothing can satisfy the eye of Adam's son except dust. And Allah forgives him who repents to Him." Ibn ‘Abbas said: I do not know whether this saying was quoted from the Qur'an or not. ‘Ata’ said, "| heard Ibn AzZubair saying this narration while he was on the pulpit." -Sahih Bukhari 8:76:445 Not only did they forget the entire surah barring these few verses, but some like Ibn Abbas forgot whether it even was in the Quran. oO Lost verses from Surah at-Tawba Surah at-Tawba (also known as al Bara’at) was originally equal to the length of al- Baqara according to narrations recorded by al—-Suyuti (best known for his Tafsir al- Jalalayn) in The Itqan "Malik says that several verses from chapter 9 (Sura of Repentance) have been dropped from the beginning. Among them is, ‘In the name of God the compassionate, the Merciful’ because it was proven that the length of Sura of Repentance was equal to the length of the Sura of the Cow. - "The Itqan" by Suyuti Part 3, Page 184 "Malik said among what had been narrated by Ibn Wahb and Ibn Al Qasim and Ibn Abdul Hakam is that when the first part of Surat Bara'at was lost, ‘Bismillah Al Rahman Al Raheem’ was also lost along with it. It has also been narrated from Ibn Ajlan that he heard that Surat Bara'at was equal to the length of Surat Al Baqarah or approximately equal to it, so the part was gone and because of that "Bismillah Al Rahman Al Raheem" wasn't written between them (between the lost and the remaining part) .” -Tafsir al-Qurtubi on Surah al Bara'at In a Hasan hadith in the collection of Tirmidhi, Uthman is narrated as saying that they didn't know whether or not Surah at-Tawba was part of Surah al-Anfal, and Muhammad died without making it clear, so they were placed together.
