Unit Summary
The first unit of music class for all grades focuses on classroom culture and routines, including self, others and instrument care, working hard, autonomy, consequences,
students solving their own problems and empathy. Musically:
K Kinder music students explore their voice, engaging in new tonalities, practicing rhythmic patterns, and assessing what it means to be a team.
1 First grade music students explore their voice, audiate and sing the resting tone and whole patterns in major and duple. First graders explore what it means to be and act as a team.
2 Second grade music students audiate and sing whole patterns in major, minor, dorian as well as duple and triple using syllables (verbal association). Students will start with first class compositions on the
steel drums.
3 Third grade music students will continue to develop their class composed tunes, focusing on applying the feedback cycle to improve their songs.
4 Fourth grade music students will continue to develop their class composed tunes, focusing on applying the feedback cycle to improve their songs.
