II. PROJECT SUMMARY

Across the country, learners have been away from schools and their teachers. This has
brought a lot of changes to their learnings. The traditional face-to-face learning is temporarily
prohibited due to COVID-19 pandemic. Home-based learning such as modular distance
learning is used as a substitute to the traditional face-to-face class in order to ensure learning
continuity. Due to lowering of the alert level status nationwide, face-to-face classes may be
possible. The Department of Education (DepEd) foresees the re-opening of more schools to
hold limited in-person classes with its progressive expansion, as alert level status was
lowered in more provinces nationwide. During the Laging Handa Public Briefing on March
2, Education Chief Leonor Briones said that more than 6,000 schools are ready to implement
face-to-face classes. Of which, 4,239 public schools and 76 private schools have already
started conducting in-person classes as of March 1. status
In line with the Department of Education (DepEd) Memorandum No.071, s.2021 titled
Preparations for the Pilot Face-to-Face, Expansion and Transitioning to New Normal, all
public schools nationwide shall conduct a self-assessment using the School Safety
Assessment Tool (SSAT) in preparation for the expansion phase and onward transitioning to
new normal of face-to-face. The School Safety Assessment Tool (SSAT) shall be used to
assess the readiness of the schools to participate in the conduct of the implementation of face-
to-face learning modality in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Project CARES (COVID-19 Classroom Arrangement and Readiness through Engagement
of Stakeholders) is a classroom initiated projects to improve the classroom physical facilities
and enhance the learning environment during this new normal education. This project aims to
comply with the standards of the Joint Memorandum Circular No.1, s. 2021 and DepEd
Memorandum No.071, s.2021 to ensure full readiness of the classroom. Upon the assessment
made by the classroom adviser through the use of SSAT, there is a need to comply with the

classroom layout and structure, classroom traffic management and protective measure,
hygiene practices and safety procedures. A limited face-to-face meeting will be conducted to
inform and orient the parents regarding the result of the assessment. Adviser and HPTA
Officers come up with the Project CARES that will provides the needs of the classroom to be
able to comply with the SSAT and will engage the stakeholders in the completion of the
projects.
By doing this Project CARES, classroom will be able to participate face-to-face learning
and will ensure safety of the learners during this pandemic. This project will benefit parents,
learners, stakeholders as well as the school and will be ready for face-to-face learning.
To accomplish Project CARES, we are going to find donors/sponsors/stakeholders who
will give us the fund in accomplishing the said projects. Establish partnership and generating
fund to purchases the needed materials. Homeroom PTA officers and parents of Grade 8-
Cattleya will also be giving their financial support. The project management team will be the
one to do and comply with the needs of the classroom. It will be done from January to May,
2022. It will take up to five months to successfully completed the projects. January will be
the meeting, orientation and planning for the projects as well as targeting the stakeholders
who will help us to accomplished the said project. February will be intended for the
collections of donations and start of doing the projects until April. Monitoring and evaluation
of the projects will be done on May. The estimated budget for this project is almost Php
25,000.00 which will cover the provision of additional exit door, construction of
handwashing facility and learning kiosk and purchasing of COVID-19 essentials. The budget
to be used in the conduct of this project will be coming from the stakeholders in kind
donations and from the proponent’s personal fund. Strictly no fund will be taken from school
MOOE. It is hoped that through this initiative, classroom will be prepared and ready and will
be a great help to the school overall assessment and full compliance with all the indicators
under the SSAT. Parents will have the assurance of the safety of the learners and will strictly
follow the minimum public health standards. Learners will be excited and teachers will
welcome the learners with a big hand securing the safety of everyone.

III. PROJECT BACKGROUND

Since its outbreak two years ago, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the education
systems globally, affecting the most vulnerable learners the hardest. Given the President’s
approval of the recommendation for the progressive expansion of face-to-face classes,
schools have been prepared all the necessary documents as compliant with the SSAT. School
were also directed all the classroom advisers to prepared the classroom for possible
implementation of face-to-face learning. By using the SSAT as a tool in assessing the
readiness of the classroom, they need to meet all the indicators provided in classroom layout
and structure, classroom traffic management and protective measure, hygiene practices and
safety procedures. Upon the assessment of the adviser some of the indicators did not meet by
the classroom. Therefore, the classroom needs to provide the required number of seats to be
occupied at least 1-2 meters apart, it should also be well-ventilated, availability of
sterilization box, classroom signage, school and classroom map, provision of additional exit
door, hand washing facility and COVID-19 essentials and the construction of learning kiosk
which serve also as waiting area.
