 ABSTRACT

Almost every aspect of life has been affected and suddenly

changed by the "new normal ", which is known to be caused by the

new pandemic worldwide as Covid– 19 . one of the most widespread

changes concerns aspects of education. The Philippines reopened

public schools on October 5, 2020. To date, there is an outbreak

of the still untouched coronavirus that has killed more than

5,000 people and unemployed 4.6 million Filipinos. Despite being

asked to postpone classes until 2021, the Department of Education

argues that we should not wait to educate millions `of Filipino

students. To keep learning uninterrupted, DepEd has implemented a

distance learning approach. This is a learning mode in which

there is interaction between geographically separated teachers

and students during class. This means that the class is done

outside of the traditional face to face set-up. Since, then, they

discussed and distributed the creation of modules. Prior to the

outbreak of this so called virus, modular education was used in

certain parts of the world. Its definition depends on how the

approach was used.

Since it has a change in the system of education. It is

undeniable may of the students have lack of motivation in their

study. So the researcher conduct this case study to know what are

the Factors Affecting the Motivation of the Grade 11- St. John
Bosco STEM Students of Baco Catholic School, INC. In Coping With

Modular Distance Learning. And also to identify and analyze what

the students reasons in submitting their modules with modular

distance learning.

The researcher received the gathered information and data

with the given survey questionnaire. And as a result in the

conducted survey it gives some conclusions but in general,

researcher concluded that students have a positive perception on

having motivation in learning. Possessing this kind of individual

characteristic is of great contribution with their academic

performance. However, the identified factors affecting the

motivation of the Grade 11 STEM students of St. John Bosco of

Baco Catholic School were clearly brought advantage and

disadvantage with the students’ performance in studying. It is

significant to consider these factors by the students to be able

to find ways on how to develop their motivation in different

instances not just in studying. Also, people surrounding them

should also be aware of the students’ academic performance to

address their needs and provide the much-needed support.

The modular distance learning is a challenging period in the

educational system in the country. With this, conclusions were

developed by researcher which focuses on the sudden change it has

brought. Also, it can be determined that the educational system

can also be brought to normal status given the fact that some

other countries had already done. With this, the struggles faced

by the students nowadays will developed them in various aspects

that will benefit positively.
