MRK718 – Winter 2021

Professor: Erin Wolf

Assignment #3: Voice Over Presentation (25%)

Due: March 17th at 11:59pm

Submission Method: Digitally, on Blackboard under “Assignments”

This assignment must be completed in pairs (groups of 2) and upon submission to Blackboard
will be reviewed by Safe Assign. Please be cautioned against plagiarism and recognize that
severe penalties could be imposed.
You have applied for a marketing position at IC Savings (the actual job posting, retrieved from
Indeed, is provided below), and you have been selected for an interview. Because of the
pandemic and the difficulty meeting face-to-face, all candidates have been asked to provide a 4-
minute, recorded presentation highlighting their credentials and experiences.

Your deliverable is a voice-over presentation that is a recorded PPT file. Please be advised that
your presentation must not exceed 4 minutes in run-time and must not be less than 2 minutes. Be
advised that Blackboard will not accept files larger than 2500 mb.

How you divide the work between your pair is up to you, but only ONE student will submit the
assignment on Blackboard (on behalf of both students). Both names must be clearly stated on the
first slide of the PPT presentation.

In your presentation create a persuasive argument as to why you are the best candidate for the
position. Use your real credentials and experiences to develop your argument – feel free to
combine the credentials/experiences of both members of your group to create a “super”
candidate.

What are the most important requirements for the job? How do you meet these? If you don’t,
how might you acquire the necessary skills within a reasonable time frame? How does your
educational profile support your candidacy? What relevant experiences do you have? Why
should the hiring team select you over all the other candidates?

Reflect on your learnings throughout the semester and incorporate them into your presentation.

Tips: The company already has your resume in front of them so don’t dwell on the information
that has already been shared (although it has gotten you to this stage, provide additional detail
that provides value to your candidacy). Soft skills (like “listening skills” or “organizational
skills” are not typically listed on a resume so you may want to provide examples of these in your
presentation. Remember, just saying “I’m a good listener” isn’t very impactful; instead, you
might say “I once worked on a project with many people with differing opinions and I was able
to collaborate with the team to reach consensus”. Also consider “transferrable” skills – those
that you utilized in the past (for example to complete your grad certificate you were highly
organized and persevered even through challenging times) and how you will carry these to your
next job. Finally, use your experiences as indications of how you have been successful in the
past, and draw on these as examples as to how you will perform in the future. Don’t just say
“I’m a hard worker” but instead “I was able to manage a part-time job, my college studies, and
family obligations over the past year. As the next Marketing Coordinator at IC Savings, I will
continue to utilize the time management and organizational skills I’ve mastered.”
