Title: Experiences of Grade 11 HUMSS Students in GCC with Online Class

Researcher: Ruth B Gonzales

Chapter 1
The Problem

Introduction

As the nation keeps on standing up to various issues achieved by the Covid

illness 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Department of Education (DepEd) is tending to

the difficulties in the fundamental training for the school year 2020-2021 through its

Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) under DepEd Order No. 012, s.

2020.

The BE-LCP is steady with the order of Section 1, Article XIV of the 1987

Constitution for the state to secure and advance the privilege, everything being equal, to

quality training at all levels, and to find suitable ways to make such schooling open to

all. Under Section 6, Chapter 1 of Republic Act No. 9155, or the Governance of Basic

Education Act of 2001, DepEd is vested with the position, responsibility, and duty

regarding guaranteeing admittance to, advancing value in, and improving the nature of

essential training.

Subsequently, the BE-LCP plans to guarantee the wellbeing, security, and

prosperity of the students, instructors, and faculty in the hour of COVID-19, while

discovering ways for training to proceed in the midst of the emergency. Specifically, the

BE-LCP has been planned with a lawful system receptive to the "new typical,"
remembering the established command to maintain the privilege, everything being

equal, to quality training consistently.

In accordance with this, the learning conveyance modalities that schools can

embrace might be one or a blend of the accompanying, contingent upon the nearby

ailments, the accessibility of assets, and the specific setting of the students in the

school or region:

1. Face-to-face. This refers to a modality where the students and the teacher are both

physically present in the classroom, and there are opportunities for active engagement,

immediate feedback, and socio-emotional development of learners. Notably, this

modality is feasible only in very low risk areas with no history of infection, easily

monitored external contacts, and with teachers and learners living in the vicinity of the

school.

2. Distance learning. This refers to a modality where learning takes place between the

teacher and the learners who are geographically remote from each other during

instruction. This modality has three types, namely: Modular Distance Learning, Online

Distance Learning, and Television/Radio-Based Instruction. This is most viable for

independent learners, and learners supported by periodic supervision of parents or

guardians.

3. Blended Learning. This refers to a learning delivery that combines face-to-face with

any, or a mix of, Modular Distance Learning, Online Distance Learning, and
Television/Radio-Based Instruction. Blended learning will enable the schools to limit

face-to-face learning, ensure social distancing, and decrease the volume of people

outside the home at any given time.

4. Homeschooling. This modality aims to provide learners with quality basic education

that is facilitated by qualified parents, guardians, or tutors who have undergone relevant

training in a home-based environment. However, this modality will be the subject of a

later DepEd issuance since there remain several issues in its implementation, including

the supervision of licensed teachers and alignments with the standard curriculum.

In application, however, the BE-LCP is confronted with different challenges.

In the first place, in the execution of the different learning conveyance modalities,

the test will be in managing students under any of the methods of distance learning or

mixed realizing who are not fit for adapting autonomously, or who are not occasionally

upheld by their folks or watchmen. Additionally basic for the execution will be the large

scale manufacturing of the required instructors and students' learning materials, just as

the help of media establishments like TV and radio broadcasts.

Second, DepEd will require considerable and extra monetary assets to meet the

targets of the BE-LCP. This is the place where the help of the individual neighborhood

government units, common society associations, and different partners become vital.

Third, the comprehensive improvement of understudies will probably be

influenced. With the BE-LCP set up, the understudies will have restricted freedoms for

collaboration with their instructors and cohorts. Hence, their learning results might be

influenced, and there might be adverse consequences on the understudies who can
only with significant effort adapt to the change. This is the place where support

intercessions by DepEd as well as by the family gets applicable to moderate this impact.

Verily, the learning climate in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic will be

altogether different. However, the DepEd is hopeful that in spite of the different financial

circumstances of families which influence the arrangement of learning support in the

home, and the particular requirements of various students, the BE-LCP could be the

way to giving quality essential schooling which is available and responsive in the new

typical.

The researcher of this study initiated a survey to find out how the students of the

E-Learning Classrooms especially among Senior High Students in Gingoog City

Colleges cope up and deal the online classes in these times of pandemic. To learn their

experiences means to provide the best alternative learning mode of the students and

faculty members and to discover the best recommendations from them while currently

experiencing the online class amidst the COVID-19.

Conceptual Framework of the Study

The research paradigm used in this study is an action research which is

generally common to qualitative research paradigm. It includes documentary collection

and analysis, participant observation using the online survey. The findings of the study

will serve as future work in conducting a structured interview to further improve the

decisions in this study.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the experiences of students with online classes.
Specifically, this study will seek to answer the following questions:

1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of

1.1 economic status;

1.2 gender;

2. What are the experiences do students encounter on online class?

3. What are the opinions of students regarding about online class?

4. What problems do the students encounter with online class?

5. What is/are the possible solution/s in coping up with online class?

Hypotheses

This study is hypothesis-free study.

Significance of the Study

The results of this study will provide information on the school practices that

ensures effective implementation of the online class. This study will be of great

importance to the following:

Division Supervisor. This study will help supervisors provide assistance with

their teachers on handling online classes.

School Administrators. This study will help provide policy guideline for school

heads on giving assignments or school works on teachers.

Teachers. This study will help teachers give knowledge about the experiences of

their students and providing them assistance in dealing with online classes.
Students. This study will give information about the different circumstances or

situations for the students. The students will know what experiences do students

encounter on online class.

Future Researchers. The results of the study may generate useful data that can

be applied to similar studies regarding online classes.

Scope and Limitations

This study is only limited to determining the management of respondents

regarding about online class. The respondents of this study are the Grade 11 Students

of Gingoog City Colleges for the school year 2020-2021. A total population of 50 from

the said school will be included in the study.

Definition of terms:

To have better understanding of this study, the following terms are defined

either operationally or contextually as used in this study.

Online Class. It is a course conducted over the Internet and are generally conducted

through a learning management system, in which students can view their course

syllabus and academic progress.

Pandemic. A disease outbreak that spreads across countries or continents.

Experiences. A particular instance of personally encountering or undergoing

something.

Senior High.  a student in the fourth year of study (generally high school or
