When the following change-over is completed, confirm the actual fuel consumption with estimated by
“SU-1”.

2-1. Main Engine

1) Start decreasing M/E FO temperature slowly.
2) Change over fuel service to LSMGO.
3) Confirm mixing condition at air vent of FO filter.

finally secure M/E FO Heater.
5) Shut steam tracing service for M/E FO service line.
6) M/E performance to be taken to confirm all engine parameters are within the acceptable limits
as specified by the Engine Makers.
Note: Pay special attention to FO temperature to avoid occurrence of vapor-lock in LSMGO.

2-2. Diesel Generator Engine

1) One D/G is to be operated on LSMGO.
2) Shut steam tracing service for D/G FO service line.
3) After confirming that running condition is stabilized, shift load to the D/G of Step 1).
4) Stop another running D/G.
Note: Prior to change-over fuel, apply lubricating oil to FO injection pump rack.

MDO mode.
2) Change over fuel service to LSMGO.
3) Secure Aux. Boiler FO Heater & steam tracing service.
4) Confirm firing condition in order.

3. ULSFO Change-over for pipelines and tanks

3-1. For vessels installed with one FO settling tank and one FO service tank (refer to Fig. 2)
Currently most vessels are equipped with this type of FO tank arrangement, which involves many
steps for the fuel change-over procedure.
Here we provide sample cases for change-over that will minimize the mixture of HFO and ULSFO.

Note: The quantity of low level alarm points in FO service tank should be confirmed in advance,
and the quantity to be entered into the ROB of the FO service tank of “SU-1”.
The valves and other equipment required for the operation should be confirmed in order to
perform the change-over operation smoothly in advance.
“Case 1” (NOT USING FO overflow tank) is preferable to “Case 2” (USING FO overflow
tank) to keep empty of FO overflow tank for emergency use.

Case 1: Case in which the FO overflow tank is not used

1) Change-over period to be calculated with the attached calculation program “SU-1”.
2) Stop and lock the FO shifter pump.
3) Change over the suction of the FO transfer pump from HFO to ULSFO storage tank.
4) For flushing purpose, at least 1m3(*1) of ULSFO to be transferred to the FO settling tank.
5) Stop and lock the FO transfer pump.
6) Clean the suction filter of the FO transfer pump.
7) When the oil level in the FO settling tank comes down to just above the upper outlet of the
tank, stop the FO purifier.
8) Clean the FO purifier line filter.
9) Unlock the FO transfer pump and start transferring ULSFO to the settling tank.
10) Set the heating temperatures of the settling tank for ULSFO use to appropriate levels. (for
purifier operation)
11) When the oil level in the FO service tank comes down to low level alarm point, restart the FO
purifier to fill the FO service tank with ULSFO to the normal level.
12) Set the heating temperature of the LSFO service tank to an appropriate level.

Case 2: Case in which the FO overflow tank is used

1) Change-over period to be calculated with the attached calculation program “SU-1”.
2) Stop and lock the FO shifter pump.
3) Change over the suction of the FO transfer pump from the HFO to ULSFO storage tank.
9) Drain HFO to the overflow tank from the settling tank through the draining valve located in
its lowest part.
10) Unlock the FO transfer pump and start transferring ULSFO to the settling tank.
11) Set the heating temperatures of the settling tank for ULSFO use to appropriate levels. (for
purifier operation)
12) When the oil level in the FO service tank comes down to low level alarm point, restart the FO
purifier to fill the FO service tank with ULSFO to the normal level.
13) Set the heating temperature of the LSFO service tank to an appropriate level.

Note: After leaving SECA, the HFO drained in the FO overflow tank has to be returned to the FO
settling tank. The fuel transferring line is common for HFO&ULSFO, hence it’s impossible
to shift from FO overflow tank during sailing in SECA.

Exact setting of fuel inlet temperature is to be based on the ULSFO specification.
3) Purifying feed rate should be kept at 30% of purifier capacity.
