INTRODUCTION
A. Greeting
Conversation 1:
A : Good morning.
B : Good morning.
A : I’m Brian Smith. Are you Tom Jones?
B : Yes, I am.
A : Pleased to meet you.
B : Nice to meet you too.
A : How are you?
B : Fine thanks.
A : How is Helen?
B : She’s very well, thank you.
A : Would you like to teach me English?
B : I’d love to, but I have to go now. Goodbye, Smith.
A : Goodbye, Jones. See you tomorrow.
Conversation 2:
A : Are you Sarah Jones?
B : Yes, I am.
A : And you are….
B : I am John Smith.
A : How is she?
B : She is very well, thank you.
A : I have to go now.
B : Oh … do you?
Conversation 3:
A : Hi Paul, how are you?
B : I am fine, thanks. And yourself?
A : Not bad, Thanks
B : How is your mother? Is she better now?
A : Much better, thanks.
B : I am glad to hear that.
A : She is at home now.
B : Is she? Really?
A : She is.

To Be (is, am, are)
To Be dapat berarti berada, adalah, atau ada. Dalam Bahasa Inggris setiap kalimat
mempunyai kata kerja (VERB). Yang kita bahas pada pelajaran ini adalah kata kerja bantu to
be (is, am, are).
The use of to be (penggunaan to be):
1. Before the noun
Eg. You are a student
The highest mountain in NTB is Rinjani
The capital city of Indonesia is Jakarta
2. Before the adjective
Eg. He is a lazy student
I am happy
We are good students
3. Before the Adverb of Place
Eg. We are in the classroom
My father is in the garden
They are in the mosque
4. Before the Adverb of Time
Eg. It is nine o’clock
We are in time/on time
They are early
5. In the Continuous Tense
Eg. I am studying English
She is teaching English
They are standing before you
6. In the Passive Voice
Eg. The pizza is eaten
The flowers are watered by Rose
My laptop is stolen
