Case Study

This pandemic has affected tourism in most of the countries. Tourism Board of each country
is currently planning to promote their interesting tourists’ attractions by implementing mobile
apps promotion through interactive walkthrough applications. Interactive walkthrough is a
guided tour that offers interactive navigation to the users and the look and feel of what they
are expecting to explore at the chosen area.

PART 1 Assignment Tasks – Individual Research Essay

Each team member (individually) is to select a topic and produce an ESSAY of not more
than 1500 words (+- 10 words) (not inclusive of the list of references). The essay is to be
written complete with evidence of research, citations and referencing. Students are advised to
apply the correct use of APA referencing throughout the essay.

Each student is to choose one of the following topics for his/her individual essay:
1. Agile UX -
2. Human factors consideration in designing interface for mobile devices -
3. The HCI challenges in designing interface for mobile devices -
4. UX Methodology -
5. Mobile Applications Design Principles -
6. UX vs UI -

7. UX design tools -
8. Mobile UX -
9. Personas –
10. Responsive Vs Adaptive Design –
11. Usability Evaluation –
12. High Fidelity Prototyping –
13. Gamification in UX: Increasing User Engagement –

You are not allowed to choose the same research topics in your group. All research essays
ought to relate to the prototype that you are going to create.
DUE DATE for PART 1 (Week (6) of ): (upload to moodle folder – will provide the
link later)

PART 2 Assignment Tasks – Prototype Design & Walkthrough

Initially, for PART 2 of the assignment, you are required to design and produce an interface
design prototype for an interactive walkthrough prototype. You need to work in a team of
4 members, or in exceptional cases, 3 members. You are to design the prototype for this app
by choosing any ONE (1) area that is listed. You may choose an Interactive Walkthrough
Prototype for:
1) Island/s
2) Historical buildings/monuments
3) Memorials
4) Theme Parks
5) Zoo/Farms/Parks (bird park/butterfly farms/national zoo)
6) Galleries (art gallery, KL city gallery, National bank gallery)

Using the mobile technology, this application can be used to and not limited to only, find
their ways/navigating at the area interactively, layout of the place, getting information
about the area, how to get there, the events/activities/attractions,
taking/uploading/downloading videos and/or photos and sending comments or suggestions
related to the application. You may add any other functions suitable.

Do note that the purpose of this assignment is on the user interface and what goes into the
entire design process which will give it a certain look and feel. A fully functional system is
not expected to be produced.

However, some limited functionality (such as dummy output) is expected in order to

demonstrate the ability of the system. Database backend are not necessary.

You are to apply your knowledge on usability engineering lifecycle in designing usable
interface for this product. Following the tutorial sessions in class, the team will work through
the following activities: -
· User requirement analysis – produce user profiling report and apply at least 2
methods of data gathering technique. One of it must be Ethnography.
· Usability goals and competitive analysis which includes to highlight on any Design
Principles by Jacob Nielsen, Donald Norman or Ben Schneidermen or other relevant
accepted guidelines.
· Prototype Walkthrough which includes Designs and prototyping – applying any 1 UX
design tool of your choice (Adobe XD or Figma).
· Testing of designs by implementing DECIDE Framework, Heuristic Evaluation and
Usability Testing.
· Final presentation of the walkthrough from user profiling up to testing and the final
interface design.

You are to implement the final design using a tool of your choice, conduct usability testing on
the design, present your findings and document the entire process. Complete documentation
must be produced to contain all the activities that the development team went through in
producing the system's interface, as well as a signed workload distribution
matrix.

Throughout the development cycle, the team is required to submit a set of minutes and a
progress report every two weeks. This will be from the onset of the assignment and is to be
included as part of the documentation submission.
