Research Methods in Applied Linguistic

Professor: Ph.D. Karina Luzdelia Mendoza Bravo
Master student: Ing. Jonathan Muñoz

Annex A.L. 2.2

Technique: Analysis and Synthesis
Topic: Theoretical framework

Instructions:
1. Analyze the definitions of the variables studied in the Annex A.L.2.1.
2. In table 1, synthesize the information collected, establish similarities, differences, and
your position according to what was analyzed on the definition of the variables studied.
3. Once you have analyzed and synthesized the information, create your outline of
theoretical references regarding your two variables.

Table 1

Variable 1 – The ICT

The ICT is a door that opens new opportunities in different fields in the
Similarities: real world.
The ICT have some things in common but depending on the field
Differences: where ICT will be developed ICT has many differences, for example in
education or, health or, science or, business, etc.
Reseacher’s The use of ICT is very important in education. When someone is
position: learning a new language the use of ICT is a great tool for developing
the skills of learning a new language.

Variable 2 – English Skills Linguistics

For getting English Skills Languistics is necessary to have an
Similarities: environment that helps to improve those skills. ICT, is a great helping
help for getting English Skills Linguistics.

Differences: There’s no differences found.

Reseacher’s When someone wants to learn a new language is necessary to have in
position: mind that the knowledge is very crucial. The use of different tools as
ICT, readings, books, etc are very helpful to develop English Skills
Linguistics.
Outline of theoretical references

2. Chapter 1

2.1. The ICT

Tounder (2008) said “The integration of ICT influences the entire school system, research
focusing on ICT in schools is generally limited to the study of variables at class level. In
contrast to these studies, the present research explores ICT integration from a school
improvement approach. More particularly, it examines the local school policy with respect to
ICT integration from both the principal’s perspective and perceptions of teachers.”

2.2. English Skills Linguistics

As Abu-Rabia (2012) mentioned “Linguistic Interdependence Hypothesis, assumes that if the
external environment provides an adequate stimulus for preservation of a first language, then
intensive exposure to a second language at school will contribute significantly to a bilingual
development, without having any negative influences on the first language.”
