Day and Date: Description of Activity

On the first day, I got introduced to the building and its various department, especially the
human resources department where I am located to do my training. As it was my first day, I was
oriented with the websites the company uses for its data and work procedures such as the Qiwa
Day 1: platform and the Muqeem portal. Some of the tasks that I was asked on my first day are check
the billing and account statements and make sure they were right, I was also appointed to check
the reports and the statements on the working hours of the overtime and Fridays for the month
of May for the year 2021.
For my second day, I was tasked to double check some paperwork, which was about matching
the license plate numbers of the company’s cars with the name of the owners or the people who
are using the company’s cars. Another activity of today was learning how to calculate the
Day 2: salaries of the employees depending on their situation, whether they’re just starting or coming
back from vacation. After learning the procedures and the equations, I applied what I learned
through some work and tasks that were assigned to me. Later on, I assisted my supervisor in
making and writing statements.
For my third day on the job, I was assigned to audit some statements regarding the companies’
expenses and bills for extracting work permit for the non-Saudi workers at the company.
Day 3: Another thing we did is take a lesson on the insurances policies and how to calculate them, we
also learned that Saudi employees differ than non-Saudi employees when it comes to insurances
calculations.
On the fourth day of the first week of the internship, I was assigned to audit the overtime
statements and the billing statements of the company. I was also taught how to calculate the
Day 4: salaries of the employees including the overtime payments and including the insurance. Later
on, I applied what I learned on an excel sheet and worked with my supervisor on some reports
regarding employees’ salaries.
On the last day of the first week, I had a task of checking on the work of employees for the
week and make sure their calculations are correct and that there are no mistakes. I was also
Day 5:
assigned to an exam to test my abilities of all that we have learned for the week, and fortunately
I got a Fullmark.

1. What new knowledge or skill did you learn on the internship this week? Describe.

Teamwork is one of the most skills that I have seen around work here, I have done a lot of homework that
are teamwork during college, but there was always this student who does all the job for all the team, or one
that tells them exactly what and how to do the work. On the internship this week I learned that teamwork is
effective and needed, that everyone in the team does his/her work and everyone is responsible for a part of
the job. I have seen my supervisor and other supervisors of other interns working together and how
everyone was so professional and certified about their work and what they do. Every employee has a task
done so the other employee can finish the job and gets the paperwork done or gets a specific job completed.
What have you learned in college that you applied on the internship?
What I learned in college about time management and communication skills have really come in a big help
for me, especially because the company I work with is very strict about being there in time and their “being
late” policies. Communication classes that I took in college have helped me too because now I know how to
talk professionally to my co-interns and to my supervisors. I know how to reach my boss when I need her
3.
and how to handle those around me even when things aren’t always nice. Another thing that I learned in
college and applied in work is work ethics; I learned how it is important to keep any secretive information
about the company I work for caged and reserved, I learned not to cheat when doing my work or be lazy at
it, that I have to commit to my work and tasks and not disclose any private or trusted information to anyone
outside and sometime inside the work.
List any difficulties, mistakes, pleasant or unpleasant experiences that occurred this week. What did you do
to correct your mistake (s)?
During the first week I had some difficulties adjusting to the new system of the company and how it works,
5. especially during the first day. Al-Asfour company uses a few different terms than what I was taught at
PMU classes, which led me to make two mistakes during renewing a work permit for a non-Saudi employee
who works for the company. My supervisor was very helpful and smooth about it and she showed me how
it is done and told me that they use different terminology because their system support a British language.
On what skill or question could you use help in performing your internship responsibilities better?
The most wanted or desired skills in HR that are always good to be bettered and practiced are
7.
communication skills, time management, collaboration, information processing, and critical thinking and
initiative.
What interesting or challenging experience did you have with your fellow workers or site supervisor?
Describe.
My supervisor makes sure that at the end of the day she gives me some challenging questions and problems
9.
to solve to make sure that I understand how the work is done, and to make sure that I get what she taught
me during the day. I find that very interesting as it keeps me paying attention to everything she says and
does during work.
