Journal Week #9

My ninth week at the East Central Health District was way more exciting and busier

than week eight was. This week I was able to do a lot more on my own during inspections and

was able to write up the inspection instead of watching them do it. Some of the inspectors are

also now letting me sign under them on the actual inspection. In some inspections this week we

had several people who just shut down when they saw the score and did not want to listen to

anything we had to say. Since we know this is going to happen, we go over everything and how

to correct the mistake before we show them the score. We do this so they do hear what we have

to say.

Throughout the course of this week, I have been able to take food temperatures alone

and fill out inspection papers. This week we only had one failing grade when I went out. We

went to Bonefish in Augusta, and they received a 69. This score was not only a shock to the

restaurant but to us as well. This establishment normally gets a high B or an A. Since they

received an unsatisfactory score, we will return for a re inspection within 10 days and the

restaurant is told of the date. It is very interesting to me to see how the managers are going to

react to the scores we give them. In some places some of the people have no reaction or some

will see the score and not want to listen or talk to you for the rest of the time.

In closing I am still enjoying my time here at Department Public Health. I got a call

back this week and I have an interview for the environmental health specialist job in McDuffie

County. My interview is in 2 weeks on March 30th at 11:00. I am very excited and nervous

about this interview but very honored to even get the opportunity to have an interview. I have

also applied for a job at my internship site for the same job but have not yet heard anything back
from it. I would be honored to work at either office coming out of college but as of right now I

would rather work at the Richmond County office.
