Transportation
The IoT can play the important role in integration of
communications, control, and information processing across
various transportation. Application of the IoT extends to all
aspects of transportation systems (i.e. the vehicle and the
driver or user). Dynamic interaction between these
components of a transport system enables inter and intra
vehicular communication, smart traffic control, smart
parking, electronic, logistic and fleet management, vehicle
control, and safety and road assistance . Modern
automobiles are equipped with sensors which are
connected to the internet through control systems. Some of
the sensors used in automobiles with their positions are
given in fig. IoT plays important role in road safety- systems
detection, lane change warning, traffic signal control,
intelligent traffic scheduling.
IoT provides an inexpensive and advanced way to optimize
performance and bring qualities of MRT to other
transportation options like buses. This improves services and
service delivery in the areas of scheduling, optimizing
transport times, reliability, managing equipment issues, and
responding to customer needs.
Infrastructure
Management
Monitoring and control operations of rural infrastructures like
bridges, railway track. It is a key application of the IoT. The
IoT infrastructure can be used for monitoring any events or
changes in structural conditions that can compromise safety and
increase risk. It can also be used for scheduling repair and
maintenance activities in an efficient manner, by coordinating
tasks between different service providers and users of these
facilities . IoT devices can also be used to control critical
infrastructure like bridges to provide access to ships. Usage of
IoT devices for monitoring and operating infrastructure is likely
to improve management and emergency response coordination,
and quality of service, up-times and reduce costs of operation in
all infrastructure related areas.
Home Automation
Home automation is the residential extension of building
automation. It involves the control and automation of lighting,
heating, ventilation, air conditioning , and security, as
well as home appliances such as washer/dryers, ovens or
refrigerators/freezers. They use Wi-Fi for remote monitoring
and are a part of the Internet of things .
Smart homes can accommodate user preferences for convenience. For
example, user's can program their garage door to open, the lights to go
on, the fireplace to turn on and their favorite tunes to play upon their
arrival.Home automation also helps consumers improve efficiency.
Automatic Illumination Systems, Advanced Locking Systems,
Connected Surveillance Systems all fit into this concept of smart
homes.
Health Care
IoT devices can be used to enable remote health monitoring and
emergency notification systems. Some hospitals have begun
implementing smart beds that can detect when they are
occupied and when the patient is attempting to get up.

The use of wearables or sensors connected to patients, allows doctors to monitor a patient's condition
outside the hospital and in real-time. Through continuously monitoring certain metrics and automatic
alerts on their vital signs, the Internet of Things helps to improve the care for patients and the prevention of
lethal events in high-risk patients.
The integration of IoT technology into hospital beds, giving way to smart beds, equipped with special
sensors to observe vital signs, blood pressure, oximeter and body temperature
Agriculture

By develop the agriculture machinery into smart devices causes control the water pumps and
sprayers are controlled anywhere.IoT in agriculture uses robots, drones, remote sensors and
computer imaging combined with continuously progressing machine learning and analytical tools
for monitoring crops, surveying and mapping the fields and provide data to farmers for rational
farm management plans to save both time and money.
The major benefits of Iot by using drones include crop health imaging, integrated GIS mapping,
ease of use, saves time, and the potential to increase yields. With strategy and planning based on
real-time data collection and processing, drone technology will give a high-tech makeover to the
agriculture industry.
In IoT-based smart farming, a system is built for monitoring the crop field with the help of sensors
(light, humidity, temperature, soil moisture, etc.) and automating the irrigation system. The farmers
can monitor the field conditions from anywhere. IoT-based smart farming is highly efficient when
compared with the conventional approach.
Disaster Management
Internet of Things with wide range of smart sensors allow
engineers to build a more effective emergency response system
for factories, schools, hospitals, airports and any other public
gathering places. Any emergency situations like fire outbreak or
flooding will be automatically detected using sensors and this
information is shared to responsible work groups in real time.
Disaster management team can respond effectively within
seconds to start recovery operations. With better preparation
plan, disaster management team can work safely and assist
each individual to evacuate safely during an emergency
situation.
Some of the common sensors: smoke detector, temperature
sensor, humidity sensor, CO2 monitoring sensors and
precipitation detector.

During an emergency, fire department, emergency response

volunteers, police force, ambulance units and nearby hospitals
will receive an alert about the scenario. Automated warning
system improves the preparedness and allows authorities to
plan and handle any kind of situations immediately.
Energy Saving
Integration of sensing and actuation systems, connected to
the internet, is likely to optimize energy consumption .It is
expected that IoT devices will be integrated into all forms of
energy consuming devices and be able to communicate with
power generation.
Adoption of IoT and big data technologies provides multiple
benefits to different stakeholders in the energy supply chain
and helps:
Reduce energy spending
Minimize carbon emission and drive sustainability
Better comply with regulations
Integrate green energy
Optimize asset maintenance
Automate processes
Cut operational expenses
Predict consumption and spending and plan accordingly
Identify malfunctions and prevent them
Conclusion

With the inception of IoT technology one can communicate

with the belongings such as home, car, fridge, AC, vaccum
cleaner, water pump etc., from anywhere in the world. It
improves safety and security of the human beings and their
belongings. The future cars are getting ready to give much
pleasure to the drivers as well as passengers while their trip.
Patients can be monitored by their doctors continuously while
their doing their routine duty. The accidents due to human
errors can be completely avoided. It is concluded that the application
of IoT definitely set new standards for the society worldwide.
