Personal Statement

1. Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively

influenced others, helped resolve disputes or contributed to group efforts over
time.

As a leader in the JROTC program, my job is a logistic officer as a second Lieutenant

officer; my responsibilities are being in charge of the items that are delivered to our
program and making sure the room is nice and neat. Because the inspector will come
and check the jrotc program to see how it is and how we maintain the items and the
classroom. However, it doesn’t mean that is the only responsibility, I have other
responsibilities, like being in charge of a group of students; marching them and leading
them to become the next leader and/or in charge of a group. So that they can lead the
group without hesitation. Also, being able to do their task and responsibilities. My
experience changed my perspective on leading others by focusing on their behalf and
their traits. It was hard to lead them in the beginning but I managed to lead them by
giving them options on what could happen if one person is messing it up, while the
others want to learn. What I do to solve the problem is to observe others by their actions
of who is willing to learn or not. Even though that was all in my Sophomore year and
Junior year. Yet today I still have responsibility and being the sixth older of the siblings I
still have to lead my two younger siblings to a better future and making sure that they are
on the right path and they know what they want to be when they grow up. However, I still
used skills on how to solve problems. I have accomplished a lot but still haven’t
accomplished all of it; but I’m willing to work on it and accomplish what I need to
accomplish. It’s my responsibility to finish my accomplishments.

2. Every person has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways: problem
solving, original and innovative thinking, and artistically, to name a few. Describe
how you express your creative side.

Creativity means something that is an original idea and imagination that is coming from
you not by others. I do have a creative skill that is important to me; which it’s drawing
and painting, also dancing and problem solving. I have been able to do all of the skills
I’ve listed above by observing and focusing on what I can do to solve the problems. If I
use creativity to solve a problem, my solution is to find what is wrong and try a different
solution and see which will work better in that problem. The steps I took to solve the
problem is, it depends on the situation and how big the problem is. I think my creativity
influences my decisions inside or outside the classroom by showing and teaching them
on how the problem can be fixed. I think my creativity can relate to my major or a future
career; It’s just on how you are going to use your creativity in your life. I express my
creative side by putting feelings and emotions. Also, by showing what I could do and
developing my creative side. There are so many creative ways to solve problems and
types. It also doesn’t matter what your creative sides are and how you handle them
because it's you who control or have them in you. And it depends on how we are going
to use it. For example, drawings, in drawing or/and arts there are many creative sides,
and you put emotion and meaning when you draw because that’s how people catch the
feelings and emotions in art. That they can relate to it and feel what the artist is feeling
or putting in that drawing. But we have all different types of personality or emotions to
portrait what’s in the drawings. Also, we have different characteristics on how we
express and describe what's going on in the portraits.

3. What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and
demonstrated that talent over time?

The talent or skill that I’m proud of is being able to draw and paint, dance, photography,
etc. This talent or skill is very meaningful to me because it gives meaning to life and it
also expresses what you feel and how you feel; and I can relate to it and show the
meaning behind it. Some of the talent comes naturally to me and I worked hard to
develop this skill or talent. My talent and skill allows me to have opportunities in and
outside the classroom. Those are the ones I listed above. I tried to do my best to fit into
my schedule but mostly when I have free time or when I get bored and have nothing to
do. It also took me time to develop some of my talent or skill and I have few talents or
skills that I have developed in the past few years now. We all have a lot, different, similar
and common talents and skills in our life. We develop our skill and talent by what we like
to do and keep us busy. And tell the world how we express ourselves from something we
can’t explain by talking. We want the world to relate to our creative side and let them
know that they can also do that. No matter what it is and how hard it is to develop that
creative side, it will take time to develop . However, it doesn’t have to be the exact same
thing or it doesn’t have to have hard and big creative sides; it can be anything small and
simple. My main creative side is dancing, drawing, and photography. Because it gives
the same meaning and it goes along together when you combine. It’s like having my
moment and putting my emotion and feelings by doing all those of my talent and skill.
Some people give up because many people say they can’t and are not good enough; but
they don’t know that they can, they just need motivation and courage to do it.
