REFLECTION PILGRIM PRAYER
Merciful Father,
You call us to live our lives as a way of salvation. Help us to recall the past with gratitude, to em-
brace the present with courage and to build the future with hope.
Lord Jesus, our friend and brother, thank you for looking upon us with love. Let us listen to your
voice as it resonates in the hearts of each one with the strength and light of the Holy Spirit.
Grant us the grace of being a Church that goes forth with vibrant faith and a youthful face to commu-
nicate the joy of the Gospel. May we help to build up the kind of society we long for, one where there
is fairness and fellowship.
We pray for the Pope and the bishops; for young people; for all those who will take part in World
Youth Day in Panama and for those who are preparing to welcome them.
Our Lady of Antigua, Patroness of Panama, help us to pray and live with generosity like yours: “I am
the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word” (Lk 1:38).
Amen
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————–————-——
The theme of the 34th World Youth Day Panama 2019 was: “Here I Am, the Servant Of The Lord.
May it be done to me according to your word.” (Lk.38:1). Our Holy Father Pope Francis reminds
the youth to keep saying “Yes”.
Pope Francis said “Keep walking, keep living the faith and sharing it. You are not the tomorrow, you
are not the ‘meantime’, you are the Now of God”.
Fortress San Pio da Pietrelcina Foundation, Incorporated is called and commissioned by the Holy
Spirit to re-echo this message of the Holy Father Francis to keep the youth awake and active in their
Christian faith and attitudes following Mama Mary’s “Yes”. So do not be afraid to tell Jesus you want
to be “part” of His love story in this world”.
In the Pope’s Homily at the Way of the Cross, he points to Mary, woman of strength. She accompa-
nied the suffering of her Son, your Son; she supported him by her gaze and protected him with her
heart. She shared his suffering, yet was not overwhelmed by it. She was the woman of strength
who uttered her “Yes”, who supports and accompanies, protects and embraces. She is the great
guardian of hope.
The saints understood this very well. The Pope thinks, for example, of Saint John Bosco. He did not
go off to seek young people in far-off places, but learned to see with God’s eyes everything that was
going on his city. So, he was struck by the hundreds of children and young people left to them-
selves, without education, without work and without the helping hand of a community. Many others
people were living in the same city, and many criticized those young people, but they were unable to
see them with God’s eyes. Don Bosco did, and found the energy to take the first step: to embrace
life as it presented itself. From there, he was not afraid to take the second step: to create a
community, family with them, where through work and study they could feel loved. He gave them
roots from which they could reach up to heaven.
Again, let us join the church in giving importance to the youth, especially the Filipino youth, and fer-
vently pray for grace, peace and mercy for the Philippines and whole world. Hence, Fortress San Pio
da Pietrelcina Foundation, Incorporated assumes the task to achieve its goals and objectives here-
under:
>Re-echo the experience of World Youth Day 2019 celebration at Panama City, Panama;
>Experience true repentance and receive forgiveness through the Sacrament of Reconciliation;
>To take a Call To Active Mission as Beloved, Gifted and Empowered.
10 3 >To encourage young people to Be Not Afraid to say “Yes” to God.
Brief History of World Youth Day
Perspective: An outside glance of an international World Youth Day would spark a by-
stander's curiosity as massive crowds of young people flood the city streets. Some might
cringe at the thought of those words, wondering what delinquency is in store, but to wit-
ness this gathering would end those fears. The happenstance observer would witness not
angst and malice, but smiles and joy, singing and dancing young people, culture upon culture
and nation upon nation, proudly holding their flags high (or wearing them), greeting one an-
other in peace, trading their tokens, humbly realizing how small they are in a world of people,
and strengthened to witness so many who share their convictions. How did it all begin?
Beginnings: In 1984 at the close of the Holy Year of Redemption, over 300,000 young peo-
ple from around the world responded to the invitation of His Holiness John Paul II for an Inter-
national Jubilee of youth on Palm Sunday in St. Peter's square. Looking out to the crowds
who answered his invitation he said, "What a fantastic spectacle is presented on this stage by
your gathering here today! Who claimed that today's youth has lost their sense of values? Is it
really true that they cannot be counted on?" It was at this gathering that the Holy Father en-
trusted to the youth what is now known as the World Youth Day Cross, to be carried through-
out the world as a symbol of the love of Christ for humanity.
