Motivation/Opening/Intro:
- Ask the students about Black History Month; “Why do we celebrate Black History Month?”
- I will project the list of names on the screen
- Students will draw their names from a bucket

Development:
- There will be a list of names to choose from on the board, with descriptions added.
- As a student picks their name from a hat, they choose a notable person.
- They will write their notable person’s name on the top of the map handout.
- I will show them on my computer how I would do this, finding states the person has been to and why this is important.
- I will walk around the class to help students along the way.
Closure:
- I will explain how this map will help the research process and help us understand more about the notable person.
- Ask the students to keep the map because we will use it later.
