CHANGE OF GARMENTS

Garments are raiments, clothes, or dresses that serve the purpose of

covering man’s nakedness. After the fall of man of in the Garden, God
used he skin of an animal to cover Adam and Eve rather than fig tree.

“And the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that the
were naked and they sew FIG leaves together and made themselves
aprons” Genesis 3:7. Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God
make coats of skins and clothed them”. Genesis 3:21.

Adam was created in the IMAGE and LIKENESS of God. “And God
said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness….” Genesis 1:26.
In his image means, the shadow or outline of a figure, likeness denotes
the resemblance of that shadow to the figure. According to 1
Corinthians, chapter eleven and verse number seven, the scriptures says
the man is the image and glory of God. The image of God does not
denote physical likeness for God is a spirit and a spirit doe not have
parts and passions as a man does. Therefore, from scripture we learn
that the “image and likeness of God” means knowledge, righteousness
and Holiness of God that was the Garment put upon Adam by God in
the creation. He was covered with the Garment of God’s righteousness
and Holiness. The reason they were physically naked and were not
ashamed.

“And they were both naked the man, and his wife, and were not
ashamed” Genesis 2:25. So Adam was clothed with the spiritual
Garment of righteousness and Holiness. He knew no sin. He have not
the idea of sin until he fell.

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it
was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she
took of the fruit thereof, and did eat and gave also unto her husband
with her and he did eat. “And the eyes of them both were opened and
they knew that they were naked; and they served fig leaves together and
made themselves aprons”. Genesis 3:6-7. They lost the Garment, their
Garment was exchanged for a filthy one. The put off the Garment of
righteousness and Holiness. They just put on the garment of filthiness,
unrighteousness sins, ungodliness etc.
Before the fall they were wearing the garment of righteousness,
Holiness, likeness and image of God which expose them to God’s
presence, visitation, communication, peace, love, fellowship. “And they
heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of
the day”- Genesis 3:8. God do have fellowship with Adam God walks in
the garden in the cool of the day God’s presence was with Adam in the
garden. God’s peace fills their hearts, and they were saturated with love
as God himself is love, God communicates with man because they were
the first family of God. God do call on them by their names. There was
no restriction, barner, demarcation or gap between man and God. Adam
and his wife were covered with the garments of righteousness and
Holiness until he fell. When they fell, the exchange their garment
exposed them to seven vocabulances they were not identify with since
creation which are

1. DEATH: “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil thou
shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eated thereof thou shalt surely
die”. Genesis 2:17. Death is what the garment of sin brings into the life of
an individual. Man died a spiritual death that leads to his physical death
and eternal death which is the second death if he fails to repent before
he physically die.

2. NAKEDNESS:- “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they
knew that they were naked…..” When man lost the garment of
righteousness and Holiness he is exposed, He become naked and
unprotected against all attacks of the enemies. His life is exposed to
every kind of danger. Sin does not cover anybody but rather exposes the
individual.

3. CURSE:- “And the LORD GOD said into the serpent, because thou
hast done this, thou art CURSED above all cattle and every beast of the
field. Upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days
of thy life.” Genesis 3:14. Sins exposes anyone, anything to curses. The
Bible says “Woe unto the wicked! It shall be ill with him: For the reward
of his hands shall be given him”. Isaiah 3:11.

4. SORROW: “And unto Adam he said because thou hast hearkened

unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree of which I
commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it, CURSED is the
ground for thy sake. In sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life”
Genesis 3:14. Sin will bring sorrow into the life of a sinner “unto the
woman he said I will greatly multiply thy SORROW and thy conception;
in SORROW thou shalt bring forth children…….” Genesis 3:16. Sins
brings sorrow, affliction, wounds, chastisement. “All thy lovers, have
forgotten thee, they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the
wound of an enemy with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the
multitude of thine inquity; because thy sins were increased”. Why criest
thou for thine affliction? They sorrow is incurable for the multitude of
have iniquity because thy sin were increased, I have done these things
unto thee. Jeremiah 30:16-17.

“Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities are

afflicted” Psalms 107:17. Sorrow belong to sinners and all that loves to
sin. “Who hath woe? Who hath SORROW? Who hath contentions? Who
hath babbling? Who hath wounds without cause? Who hath redness of
eyes? “They that tarry long at wine; they that go to seek mixed wine”
Proverbs 23:30.

Garments of sin is a full bag of sorrow

5. THORNS: “Thou also and thrustless shall it bring forth to thee;
and thou shalt eat the herb of the field”. If you know how to sin, you
will know how to suffer.

“For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and
knowledge and joy “BUT TO THE SINNERS HE GIVETH TRUSAL” to
gather and to heap up that he may give to him that is good before God”
Ecclesiastes 2:26.

6. SWEAT:- In the SWEAT of thy face shalt thou eat bread till thou
return unto the ground…..” Genesis 3:19. It was the garment of sin that
Adam wore that brought about sweat into his life, man new nothing
about sweat before his fall. Sin can make you labour and sweat for
nothing, why not take that garment of sin off your life Jesus said “Come
unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.
“Take my yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in
heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls” “For my yoke is easy, and
my burden is light”. Mathew 11:28-30.
Sin makes you labour and laboring brings sweat upon you, because the
burden of sin is heavy thereby put you under its yoke. Only Jesus can
take away the yoke and burden of sins from your life. He calls you today
to get rest for your soul from him. He says come ……” the master is
come, and calleth for thee” Joh. 11:38. The master stretched out his
hands of seven outstanding invitations to the world.

Come and rest, take the yoke and learn of Him. This limitation is three
fold. “Come unto me”, “Take my yoke” learn of me” The invitation
invites you to rest from the burden of guilt and the servitude of sin. The
invitation also invites you to the submission of faith “Take my yoke
“that is yield yourself for my obedience. It also invites you to
Discipleship “Learn of me” for the Lord has three things in view in
calling us to Himself which are, our salvation, our obedience and our
character. His salvation includes rest for the conscience from the guilt of
sin. His salvation is includes rest for the mind from our doubts and fears
and unbelief. His salvation includes Rest for the will and its restlessness
in holy service under His yoke and rest for the heart in his love. The
reason he describes Himself as our example “I am meek and lowly in
heart he also describes his service “For my yoke is easy, and my burden
is light. That is the reason he is calling you.

Come to a place of safety “And the Lord said unto Noah come thou and
all thy house into the ark. Genesis 7:1
Come to a Godly fellowship “And Moses send unto Hobab, the son of
Raguel the midianites Moses’ father in law, we are journeying unto the
place of which the Lord said I will give it you. Come thou with us, and
we will do thee good. For the LORD hath spoken good concerning
Israel”. Numbers 10:29.
Come for personal cleaning,
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD, though your
sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow, though they be read
like crimson, they shall be as wool; Isaiah 1:18. Come for a satisfying
portion “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters and he that
hath no money, come ye, buy, and eat; yea come buy wine and milk
without money and without price” Isaiah 55:1
Come at the king’s urgent in________
“Again he sent forth other servants, saying, tell them which one bidden.
Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed
and all things are ready: come unto the marriage”. Mathew 22:4. Come
to the Gospel feast. And sent his servant at supper time to say to them
that were bidden, come, for all things are now ready” Luke 14:17.

Come at the three fold called

“And the spirit and the bride say come. And let him that heareth say
come. And let him that is thirsty come. And whosoever will let him take
the water of life freely” Revelation 22:19.

Come for Rest of Soul

“Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give
you rest” Mathew 11:28. Come and drink: “In the last day that great day
of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, if any man thirst let him come
unto me and drink” John 7:38.

Here the Lord is inviting you to come and receive the Holy Spirit the gift
that He freely gives to all who believe him. Come and follow “come ye
after me and I will make you to become fishers of men”. Mark 1:17 while
the first calling is to salvation, and the second calling is to sanctification,
this invitation is a call to service, because he said ”I will make you to
become a fisher of men. No man can make himself a soul winner, he
must come to Christ who will equip and fit him to catch men.

Come and see. Two of John’s disciples, one of them was Andrew, follow
and Jesus and ask “Master, where dwellest thou? Jesus answered and
said to him “Come and see” John 1:38 – 39. This is the invitation he
extent to all. We are all blind and ignorant until we come to him and ask
him as blind Bartimaeus did….. Lord, that I may receive my sight. He
every answers receive thy sight, then as he said to the disciples “But
blessed are your eyes, for they see…..” Mathew 13:6.

Come ye apart and rest awhile. “And he said unto them, come ye
yourselves apart unto a desert place, and rest a while” Mark 6:31. Here
the Lord calls to separation for the rush and turmoil of life wearies the
servant of God. The Lord knows our need of rest and refreshment and
therefore invites us to come apart that we may enjoy communion with
him and this renew our strength.

Come and dine – “And Jesus said unto them, come and dine….” John
21:12. Jesus said this to his disciples who had toiled all the night and
caught nothing. It is a picture of his invitation to all his children to sit
down and sup with him. At their Lord’s table they know what it is to eat
of his bread and drink of the wine that He has mingled come and take
up the cross. “Then Jesus behidding him loved him, and said unto him,
one thing thou lackest go thy way, sell whatsoever then hast, and give to
the poor, and thou shall have treasure in heaven and come, take up the
cross, and follow me” Mark 10:21.

The believer is called not only to believe on his name but to suffer for his
sake. He is called to the fellowship of his sufferings, to bear his reproach,
to suffer now that he may reign here after. Jesus is calling you to come
and be free from the sweat of the burden under sin today.

The seventh vocabulances of sin in Adams life is the word

7. SWORD. “So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of
the garden of Eden Cherubim, and a FLAMING SWORD which turned
every way to keep the way of the tree of life “Genesis 3:24. Sentence
must be passed upon the offender and Execution must take place
immediately. They were justly disgraced and ashamed before God and
the holy angels. The sentence was executed to awaken and humble them
and to bring them to a sense of their sin and folly, and to repentance that
seeming themselves wretchedly deceived by following devil. Counsel
they might henceforth pursue the happiness God should offer in the
way he should prescribe. God by this fill their faces with shames. He put
them to this confusion in order for their conversion. They were also
justly discarded and shut out of the paradise. God gave man a bill of
divorce and expelled him from this garden of pleasure. He turned him
out, and put him out. “Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the
garden of Eden to till the ground from whence he was taken. “So he
drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden
Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the
way of the tree of life” – Genesis 3:23 – 24.

He turned him out from the garden to the common, and this is twice
mentioned”. “HE SENT HIM FORTH” vs 23, and “HE DROVE HIM
OUT” vs 24. God bade him go out, told him that there was no way for
him, He should no longer occupy and enjoy the garden. God kept him
out, and forbade him all hopes of re-entry, for he placed at the end of the
garden of Eden a detachment of Cheriubim, God’s hosts armed with
dreadful and irresistible power represented by FLAMING SWORD
which turned every way to keep the way that leads to the tree of life.
This is to show to Adam that God was displeased with him, though he
had mercy in store for him yet at present he was angry with him, turned
to be his enemy and fought against him by placing a FLAMING
SWORD. He was to Adam a consuming fire for it was a flaming sword.
The sword stands for war with man no peace between man and
heavenly hosts while he was in rebellion against their LORD. The way to
the tree of life was shut up.

The day Adam exchange his garment of the image and likeness of God
which is righteousness and holiness typified for the garment of sin
which resulted in the seven different vocabularies garment of death,
nakedness, curse, sorrow, thorns, sweat, and sword, man’s life have
never remain the same man has fallen from Glory to shame, from Grace
to grass, man fell brutally, only Jesus can pick man up through his
suffering, death and resurrection power so that man can put off the old
man. “That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man
which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts” Ephesians 4:22 “Seeing
that ye have put off the old man with his deeds” – Colossians 3:8. And
put on the new man “And that ye put on the new man, which after God
is created in righteousness and true Holiness” Ephesians 4:24.

“And have put on the new man which is renewed in knowledge after
the image of him that created him” Colossians 3:10. The Garment of sin,
the filthy garment have to be removed and the garment of the new man,
garment of righteousness and Holiness has to be put on. And that could
only be done through Jesus Christ the son of God.

“Having abolished in his flesh the enmity even the law of

commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain
once new man, so making peace” Ephesians 2:15. And Jesus

This seven vocabulary of sin as introduced by the first Adam were all
dealth with by the second Adam, which Jesus Christ himself.

“And SON is written the first man ADAM was made a living soul; the
last ADAM was made a quickening spirit” 1 Corinthians 15:45. Jesus is
the second and the last Adam who came to quicken us by his spirit.

Let us see how the last Adam death with the seven vocabulary of sin.

1. DEATH “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower them the
angels for the suffering of DEATH, crowned wits Glory and however,
that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man”.
“For as much then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he
also himself likewise took part of the same; that through DEATH he
might destroy him that had the power of DEATH, that is the devil”
Hebrews 2:15’ But is now made manifest by the appearing of our
saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished DEATH, and hath brought life
and immorality to light through the gospel”, 2 Timothy 1:10
“For the laws of the spirit if life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from
the laws of sin and Death.
Jesus hath conquered death for us through his death and resurrection .
“O DEATH where is thy string? “ 1 Corinthians 15:55.

2. NAKEDNESS “And the solders when they had crucified Jesus,

took His Garments, and made four parts, to every solder a part; and also
his COAT: now the Coat was without seam woven from the top
throughout – Jn. 19:23.
Jesus destroy power of nakedness and covered us with his garment of
righteousness and holiness.

3. CURSE:- “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law,

being made a CURSE for us. For it is written, CURSED is enemy one that
hangeth on a tree “Galatians 3:13. Jesus became a CURSE for its to deal
with the curse upon man, he was hanged on the cross thereby was
made a curse fro “CURSED is every one that hangeth on the tree. He
hath take our curse away by hanging on the cross. We are free from the
curse of sin because, Jesus hath redeemed us from the curse of the law.

4. SORROW:- “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows

and acquainted with grief, and we hid as it were our faces from him; he
was despised, and he esteemed him not “Isaiah 53:3. The bible describes
him as a man of sorrow.
A despised man, a man that is acquainted with grief. A man rejected by
men. Men hide their faces from him, men despised him. He was not
Esteemed, all because he was dealing with the sorrow of man, he
became sorrowful. “The sorrows of death compassed me and the flock of
ungodly men made him afraid”. Psalms 18:4.
“The sorrows of hell compassed me absent the snares of death prevented
me” Psalms 18:5.
“The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of Hell got hold
upon me. I found trouble and sorrow” Psalm 116:3. He dealt with our
son through his death. “Surely he hath born our griefs and carried our
sorrows; yet we did esteemed him stricken, smitten of God, and
afflicted”. Isaiah 53:4.

“And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to
be SORROWFUL and very Heavy”. Mathew 26:37; “Then saith he unto
them, my soul is exceeding SORROWFUL even unto death….. Mathew
26:38; Mark 14:34.

Jesus carried our SORROW away despite the fact that did esteemed him.

5. THORNS: “Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of

THORNS, and the purple roble. And Pilate said unto them, Behold the
man” John 19:5.

And they stripped him and put on him a scarlet robe”. “And when they
had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head and a reed in
his right hand and they bowed the knee before him, an make him,
saying Hail King of the Jewish. Mathew 27:28, 29. “And they spilt up on
him, and took the reed and smote him on the head” Mathew 27:28, 29-
30.

That was an indignity suffering inflicted upon Jesus by wearing a crown

of THORNS upon him. He Jesus agreed to suffer such humiliation to
deal with the curse of thorns and thistles that came upon man. He wore
the crown of thorns upon his head that your head might be free from the
curse of thorns.

6. SWEAT:- “And being in an agony he prayed mere earnestly and

his SWEAT was as it were great DROPS OF BLOOD falling down to the
ground”. Jesus was in an agony, he prayed more earnestly and sweating
to extend the sweat was droping to the ground as a drop of blood falling
down to the ground. There is a saying that blood is thicker than water,
Jesus sweat was compared to be as Thick as a blood dropping from his
body in agony, he was dealing with the curse of swearing placed upon
man in the new heaven which Jesus had gone to prepare for those who
received him, there is no sweat, no sorrow, no death, no curses.

7. SWORD: “But one of the solders with a spear pierced his side, and
forthwith came there out blood and water” John 19:34.
Jesus dealth with the sword through his death on the cross. The
Lord God placed Cherubims and flaming sword to keep them away
from the way of the tree of life. Genesis 3S:24. You will discovered that
the tree of life disappears from the pages of the Bible. It reappears once
again during the millennial and eternal age. “And he shewed me a pure
river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God
and of the lamb. In the midst of the river, was there the TREE OF LIFE,
which bare twelve manner of truths and yielding her fruit every month,
and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations”. Revelation
22:1-2. Jesus through and by his death and resurrection had dealt with
the sword by taking it away thereby opening the door of Eternal Life for
all that is ready to accept him as their Lord and Saviour.

God in his grace deals with sinner by seeking out Adam. “And the Lord
God called unto Adam” Genesis 3:9. God takes the first step in
reconciling man back to himself. “Come now, and let us reason together,
saidth the Lord though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as
snow, though they be red like Gunson, they shall be as wool” Isaiah
1:18.

“For the son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost”
Luke 19:10. “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the
unjust that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but
quickened by the spirit” 1 Peter 3:18.

“Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him for the marriage of
the lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was
granted hat she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the
fine linen is the righteousness of saints” Revelation 19:7,8.

To the saints is given the garments of righteousness and holiness but the
sinner wears a garments of righteousness and holiness but the sinner
wears a garments of sin. The sinner needs a change of Garment.

FILTHY GARMENTS

“And he shewed me Joshua the high Priest standing before the angel of
the LORD and satan standing at his right hand to resist him. And the
LORD said unto satan. The LORD rebuke thee, O satan; even the LORD
that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee; Is not this a brand plucked out
of fire? Now Joshua was clothed with FILTHY GARMENTS and stood
before the angel” Zechariah 3:1-3.

Instead of garments of purple and gold meant to cover the priest in

Exodus 28:4-6, Joshua the high priest, was covered with filthy high
priest, was covered with filthy garments as seen in Zechariah Chapter
three and verse number three. “And take thou unto thee Aaron thy
brother and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he
may minister unto me in the priest’s office, even Aaron Nadab and
Abihu Eleazar and Ahamar, Aaron’s son’s “And thou shalt make holy
garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty”. “And thou
shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted whom I have filled with the
spirit of wisdom that they may make Aarons garments to concentrate
him. That he may minister unto me in the priest’s office”. And there are
the garments which they shall make; a breast plate, and an ephod, and a
role, and a broidered coat a mitre, and a girdle and they shall make holy
garments for Aaron thy brother and his sons, that he may minister unto
me in the priest office” And they shall take gold, and blue and purple,
and scarlet and fine linen” “And they shall make the ephod of gold, of
blue, and of purple of scarlet, and fine twined linen, with cunning
work”.

Exodus 28:1-6. As ordained people of God also – John 15:16, we may

find ourselves shrouded in unpleasant spiritual coverings seven times.
These coverings prevent us from attaining our full potentials and
priviledges in God’s agenda for us by the new birth in union with the
Lord Jesus Christ our Lord.

Taking a close look at Joshua the high priest in Zechariah Chapter three,
and from verse one to four, we discover the followings. Joshua could not
maximize his priestly potentials because of the filthy garments on him.
The filthy garments attracts attacks whenever Joshua was to prosper in
his responsibility, the filthy garments gave access to satan in his life.

The filthy garment gave satan a right and lawful standing against
Joshua. Until God came to his rescue, de-robbing him of the filthy
garments and adoring him with new ones, he didn’t start manifesting
goodness.

When blind Bartimaeus encountered Jesus and wash to be healed Mark

10:50 says that he cast away his garment. That garment was an
identification for blind people in those days. Because of the activities of
satan and his agents the lives of some people have been tampered with
through filthy garments. When some one is made to wear the wrong
side of a dress through evil manipulation every progress that should
normally be made in the physical realm is reversed such people end up
in living the right opposite of the life meant for them by God. There are
negative, stanic, garments manifesting in the lives of some people in the
physical. Some of this filthy and Evil garments are garments of non-
achievements, garments of barrenness, spiritually, financially, martially,
physically. Garments of laboring without results, garments of suffering,
garments of poverty, backwardness, retrogression, retardation, garments
of insanity, garments of problems, troubles, curses, manipulation,
bewitchment, rags, sickness, garment of contrary covenants and
affliction, living opposite life. Garment of debts, garments of wandering
about, garment of sorrow, garments of unexplainable problems,
garments of chained problems and many more. Those garments are
backed up by spiritual forces and covenants and the are placed on
people to hinder them and oppose those wearing them.

The Bible records that Joshua the high priest was standing before the
Lord to carry out his priestly duty but because he was putting on the
wrong garment, satan had the right to resist him. “And he shewed me
Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, and satan
standing at his right hand to resist him” “Now Joshua was clothed with
FILTHY GARMENTS and stood before the angel”. Zecharia 3:1-3.

Until God came with the same by his mercy and love. “But God
commends his love towards us in that while we were yet SINNERS,
Christ died for us” Rom. 8:5. In our stale of sin, God sent his son Jesus
Christ to died for our sins. God stepped into the case of Joshua. “And
the Lord sand unto satan. The LORD rebuke thee, D saan even the
LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: Is not this a brand
plucked out of fire? That was a divine intervention to same Joshua from
satan. And God ordered the remover of the filthy garment from Joshua.
“And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him saying
“TAKE AWAY THE FILTHY GARMENT FROM HIM”. ……. “Behold I
have counsel thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will cloth thee with
CHANGE OF GARMENT. Zechariah 3:4.
Joshua filthy garment was changed at the intervention of God. “And I
said. Let them set a fair mitre upon his head, and CLOTHED HIM WITH
GARMENTS And the angel of the LORD stood by” Zachariah 3:5.
